Similarities? Yes, low supply, high demand, we're still behind on units. 

I bought my first home as a rent-to-own and it was also seller financed once the balloon payment came due. It's how a 20 year old was able to own. It worked for me!

Home Partners of America is not a new player in town and they have helped quite a few people in the Charlotte area get into a house.  I don't consider what they do predatory and they don't hide the terms. They are also very finicky fussy about the properties they approve and the buyers they approve.

Rent-to-own does not serve many buyers well.

I have always thought of it as taking advantage of gullible, people.

Rent to own. 

I have been asked so many times to do it and never done it.

I've always seen "rent to own" as a scam.  Very seldom do they ever turn into an ownership and as such I don't participate in them.

we don't have many rent to owns in our area.... buy it or rent it...period....

I totally agree as I've just recently started seeing them again. Home Partners is not here but there are others just as bad. 

Divvy by us are motor scooters that we rent? or maybe bicycles.

Not as many Rent to Own homes as there once were. 

Buyers are purchasing on the no money down loan programs.  It helps people into homes for now but some are still letting them go after a short time.

Hmmmm ... not seeing that alot here ... and do not see similarities other than low inventory and rising prices

I agree.

The more plans to get people into homes they want the better I say.

One can likely "find" comparisons of all kinds if one is so inclined.  Others simply go about their life.

This is not a good place to bash lenders.

I think that there is almost more risk to the landlord in these rent to own schemes than to the the tenant.

So far I have not met a tenant that I was willing to get into one of these with.

Have done very few lease options and those were many years ago. This market (at least locally) bears no resemblance to the former market downturn.

I believe the markets are very similar except the crash which caused the financial and housing collapse will be differrent moving forward.  We are currently in the largest expansion market this nation has ever seen.  Looking forward to what the future has to offer.

As tempting as it is to throw mud at Bank of America, I would hardly hold them solely accountable for the housing crisis. There was plenty of blame to share across other Lenders and other segments of our industry. Just an FYI that it is "Dodd Frank" (not "Dobbs Frank"). Not nitpicking you, just saving you from saying the wrong thing to clients & colleagues outside of this forum.

I do not see similarities.  I also do not see much rent to own in my area. 

The big trend here in downtown Chicago is empty nesters selling their suburban big barns and moving to a downtown rental apartment in the sky. Apartments under construction everywhere with loads of amenities.
