So stupid. Natural gas is the cleanest energy that we have. I'm with Bob, kook alert!

Of course drill it down and it's all about money and not the cost of the utility.

BTW, CA SOOO stupid, they can't even keep power on and they want to go all electric.

Will the stupidity ever end? Do these tree huggers have any idea what life would cost without oil and natural gas? The problem is these kooks what everyone to live that way except for themselves. Thanks for the kook alert Mimi Foster

My building has 120 units and all have cook with natural gas, heat is natural gas and so is our hot water supply. Many of Chicago residences are natural gas. It is a democratic union town. Good luck!

I hadn't heard this. It is something to watch. I have a gas stove and love it. I would hate to lose it. However, we do what we can to protect the earth. We recycle most of what we have. We reuse what we can and donate what we can't. We try to reduce our trash and carbon footprint as much as possible. I'm sure we have a lot more we can do. So, if it happens, I hear induction stoves are pretty good.

"This Vehicle Runs on Clean Natural Gas" is a bumper sticker I often see. Will they have to convert to electic vehicles? If gas is banned, will more transmission lines be needed, and more power line easements? Will people just start buying propane tanks and have propane trucked in? Will CA try to ban propane next? I can see the remarks in MLS now.. " This home comes with new wood stove and 2 cords of firewood".

It is an interesting issue since the major player for electricity in Northern California is Pacific Gas and Electric which is in bankruptcy and which is being blamed for most or all of the horrific wildfires that we are experiencing.

The building codes apply only to new construction beginning in 2020, so they aren’t an issue for anyone in an already-built home. The law has already been voted in for the City of Berkeley, Ca.

How do they think electricity is made? Natural gas is the cleanest source we have. I am tried of these liberal areas banning everything yet take San Fran where they are allowing pooping in the streets, cause acid rain in the east from their fires and no mention to India, China and the likes who burn coal and trash with no filters. while dumping waste direct into the ocean.

I use gas for cooking and I think it's great for another reason besides cooking. If the electric goes out (I mean WHEN) you can still cook food. If there was ever a catastrophe that lasted a while, you could easily heat water, wash, etc. At least until the gas runs out. I do not like being dependent solely upon electric. And electric doesn't grow from plants! Isn't much of it produced by fossil fuels?

Some new homes with multi-zone system uses heat pump. Very efficient.

In 1970 someone was hired to develop coal conversion process to develop man made gas. He told me US gas supply will be deplated by 2000.  We are pushing our luck with more discovery and methods....

Natural gas is less expensive, but a constant threat for all areas, where a leak might occur. Some years ago, I had to switch to an electric stove and it was not bad at all. Now we have propane in our home as there are not natural gas lines. If it helps the environment and removes the threat of an explosion, the transition away from natural gas in the kitchen is worth it.
