We remember but also have another memory on this date, 21 years ago. My wife posted this on her FB page this morning. This happened after 4 miscarriages, losing 5 babies.

"Pearl Harbor day means something a little different to us. 21 years ago today, we received a call from our adoption attorney, saying he had a baby for us, if we wanted him. A resounding yes from us! 14 days later we were granted legal custody of unborn Sam; three weeks later he was born. I had never wanted anyone or anything more...Sam’s arrival in our lives was an absolute miracle and he continues to be to this day. Sam quite literally saved my life, I love my boy beyond words, and I can’t imagine life without him. Families are made in so many ways. Blessings and love come when and how we least expect them if we just open ourselves to the possibilities. I choose to focus on love and gratitude today. "

Today we remember. Actually, today I also had the privelege of visiting the Civil Air Patrol airplane that was the first to fly over the Twin Towers on 9/11 to take photos. The two events are connected in that on  9/11 the U.S. sustained the largest loss of life when under attack on our soil, followed by Pearl Harbor.

I remember walking into the Arizona and no one is talking. The wall of marble with the names of those who perished by the surprise attack on a Sunday morning. And then noticed 2002, 2007 names and then it hit me without anyone saying anything. Those that survived returned at death to be interned with their fellow service buddies. That is chilling. Every day is Veterans Day. Not just once a year to celebrate and honor. My Dad was on the other theater.. the Atlantic not Pacific one. A tail gunner in a B-24 who made it home. We had a full day of activities but I certainly remembered that my father-in-law was on his ship at Pearl Harbor. They did get out.

He recalled wondering what he was going to do that morning before the air strike.
