Bob,

Kathy Streib recently wrote a post about her very positive experience with Ring.  You may want to give her a call.  We know nothing about it, except that Amazon bought it, and we have had great service with Amazon.  A

I have had my RING in service for nearly 6 months. The install was so easy I don't recall anything about it.
It has operated FLAWLESSLY. My only complaint is it is WAY TOO CHATTY.

Not only does RING generate a message when there is activity in front of the device it assumes I want to be notified of police and emergency events.

But that is not the bad part. The RING NETWORK of nearby users reveals how incredibly lame neighbors are. "Watch-out everybody, my RING recorded a coyote last night!" Give me a break.  The message should say, "Is your cat on the menu for these neighbors?"

Then there is the traumatized neighbor Yelling on RINGnetwork, "DO YOU KNOW WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE ON MY DRIVEWAY?"  They are wearing the blue/green uniforms of utility workers complete with hard hat, a left Brest monogram reading DUKE Energy and a great big ID Tag stating MY Name IS HENRY.

Oh God how the go on about calling 911 when those 80 year old JWs come by.

The tool is good, but the people have perverted the intent.

Sasquatch, when dirty and grimy in the garage believes RING to be the best way to inform me of his parched condition.

Hi Bob! I have one and love it! I had my contractor install it and he did have to come back with another part to install it properly but, got it done.

We love it and absolutely do not pay any additional fees to use it.

I guess the only complaint we have is that when it's used a lot, the battery runs down pretty quickly!

We received one as a Christmas gift a few years ago and had trouble setting it up. I called ring and they sent us out a new one. You don't have to pay the additional monthly fee if you don't want to save the video past a certain point.

I have two.
Had no issues setting them up.
The fee was expected - not bad for $30/year
I have the battery models, and they last quite a long time before charges.

The only issue I had was with the one facing the street, it was triggering at everything.
Moved it so it faces the driveway and not street directly, adjusted the motion zones to low, and it's okay now.

I would expect that it would have a monthly 'recording' service & need to be hooked up to the internet. I do not have one. My dog used to tell me when someone was around.

no, but zmodo and there is no additional fee.  There is if I want stuff to go to the cloud, but I don't need that.  It sends alert to phone and I can save it to my phone if needed for no monthly fee.

I know what you are talking about.  I was told that you can't jump ahead and take everything apart.  You add one by one and have to record the number, etc.  If you go out of line you get a major headache.  I had my nephew do it because I was ready to throw it off the roof!  Not really impressed overall.  More upkeep and worry about outlet placement close to monitor, etc...  I like the view it gives me, but more of a bother than I thought it would be.

We have the "nest", which is similar to Ring and love it. We can see our front door, driveway/garage and backyard (the latter two are just cameras, no doorbells) from anywhere, right on our iPhones and even converse with whomever is there, if we want.

I do have one.  It works well enough and was easy to setup.  I did the hardwired install and it tied in with my existing doorbell speaker perfectly.

I'm seeing some issues about their app being less than privacy friendly, so that's a concern for me now.  But it does have it's benefits.  Came in handy for my landscapers to reach me while I was out at the store the other day.

Yes excellent for security in my opinion. If you get a call to your door you can communicate through your smartphone, no matter where you are in as long as you have a wifi connection.

I chose to install Blink cameras. They can be mounted out of reach (bad guys will steal your Ring doorbell). Battery powered. Two way audio and no charge for cloud storage. I have been very happy with Blink.

Yes we have one and it was easy to install and works great. We used to have a flag in site of the doorbell but it kept setting it off so we moved the flag.  Issue solved.

I am only familiar from the outside. I was talking to someone in their doorway once; the person I was talking to said something about her husband drinking too much. The doorbell said "I don't drink!" He was listening from work.

I turned around theatrically and said "Yes, you do indeed!" We all laughed but it was weird knowing everything we just said was heard. Last time I talked in front of one.

I am evaluating. I plan to install a security/surveillance system but I have not made a decision on which one. I appreciate everyone's input on this string.

There was a very recent story on the news about folks filing a lawsuit against Ring due to very troublesome hacking issues and intrusion on their personal privacy.
