As one ages the internal alarm creeps closer and closer to 4 am.

And then one realizes they were awake before 4 anyway.

That  must be why old people are so grouchy, they can't get enough sleep.

I don't even need an alarm.  I tell my brain before I go to slumber what time I want to get up.

Even if I do set an alarm I will wake a minute to two - maybe 5 minutes before it goes off.

Alan Blake when I was a teen the loudest Rock N Roll did not get me out of bed... because I liked R&R. I found the key was setting the alarm to a station I hated and to set the alarm across the room. This ended up having two benefits: #1) it got me out of bed #2) I became a Christian because I got to like that awful gospel music .

Best alarm is letting natural light wake you....I was speaking to my husband about this very subject this morning.  I wish I had an alarm of automatically opening the drapes at "x" time....

I only use an alarm if I have to ensure I'm up REALLY early to catch a plane or something. Otherwise, I wake up right around 5am every morning without an alarm. Sometimes a few minutes before or after, but usually right at 5:01. :-)

After so many years of waking up at the same time, I don't even set an alarm clock.  My internal clock wakes me at 7:00-7:30 whether I want to, or not.

It starts with telling yourself before going to sleep what you will do when you hear the alarm.

Generally I do not need an alarm, though there are those times when I do.

At times if I need to get up the power of suggestion does it quite well. Other times, my body programming kicks in. In my youth, one alarm did it. Today, to play safe, an alarm just in case. However I find myself waking before hand

So there are people out there worse than me?! I have difficulty but am able to get up after the first alarm because I hate being woken several times. It's torture. I use my Fitbit and the vibrating wakes me most days. If I don't tap it to stop it, it will "snooze" for 9 minutes and I am able to hop out of bed by then.

I think they were born that way. My son and husband are the kind who can go to bed, fall right to sleep, and wake up before the alarm. My daughter and I are not. I think it is part of who a person is. Now that I'm older, I find I cannot stay up until the wee hours of the night. Over the past few years I've worked hard to get good sleep and stay on a schedule. I was recently visiting my daughter who is an hour behind us. The first several days I woke before the alarm clock. As the week went on, I gradually slept longer. By the end of the week, my alarm clock is the reason I got up. My body just seems to want to sleep a little longer in the mornings.
