The only evidence of panic here is that hand sanitizer is flying off the shelf Joseph Doohan

I have no hysteria. But... I did notice there were fewer people in my land management class last night. And there are some shelves in my local Walmart that were a bit sparse last time I was there. So people do seem to be changing their routines/buying habits as a result of news reports.

Hysteria?
Crisis?
This is a serious virus, the words being used are those planted by the media in their effort to drive circulation and viewership. Many of us have taken the bait and repeating the words, increasing the volume, driving the hysteria. A self-full-filling prophecy.
The the media will pat themselves on the back for the good job they did.
Containment has been lost, so just be smart....NOT PARANOID!

Since this area is tourism heavy, our area has already lost $154 million in cancelled conferences. Donald Trump was supposed to attend one of the conferences, so at least we don't have the expenses of his visit.

Not hysteria yet, not in my area - no diagnosed cases in my state. Saw people on airplane with masks and gloves, at airports too. There was a flight boarding for Hong Kong - everyone in masks!

I'm out back picking up after my dog, thinking all the exposure to all the germs in my life is probably why my immune system is generally happy. so thank you Luna you hairy pooping beast from heaven!
I will also say that I go through bleach like nobody's business. My husband was an organic produce manager in LA for years and he INSISTED on a few drops of bleach in a lot of water to rinse vegies . . . plus wiping floors, counters . . .
I have not seen a single mask and no one's talking about it . . . and we're a casino town too! I will admit I'm not playing lately but that's only because I've been busy! One of my guys up in Vegas who plays poker table at the Venetian did mention that someone had a mask on at the table and was told by security remove it or leave. LOL

No. However, the first three cases have been reported in Montgomery County and the Governor of Maryland has declared a state of emergency.

I wouldn't call it "hysteria". More like serious concern because we do have at least one local case confirmed and others being tested.
We are also experiencing the same stocking-up syndrome as other areas.

No hysteria.
I am umpiring a baseball tournament this weekend. The tournament director asked everyone to fist bump rather than shake hands. The tournament is in eastern WA but some teams are from the Seattle area, where there has been a Corona virus impact. I plan to be cautious and follow the suggested protocols with handwashing etc...

Overtly no - but a friend went to Costco and left because the line outside the store was so long! So apparently there is some hysteria . . .

Death elderly male 1, 20 other isolated. School teach tested positive a few miles away. 3000 tourists unable to get off the boat.
Out of clorax, masks for 2 weeks, water, even food. 100% sure it will transmit to other states.
Kudlow stated the only way to stop spreading is lock down all affected areas. But Americans will not tolerate that.

No, but I am a little worried about the stock market affecting my property values. Just concerned about the value of my current and future earnings.

Not hysteria, but we are having an outbreak in my county. I think maybe 105 people or that may be for NYS, but almost all of them here in my county. I have an autoimmune disease so I'm trying to be safe rather than sorry.
But, I'm super glad that I work from home and don't need to leave to earn an income. We have sanitizers in our building and they are cleaning 3 times a day.
I'm glad it's not transmitted through the air as that would make people hysterical. Doing lots of hand washing.

Hi Joseph,
There is a high alert and there is a confirmed case in Williamson County TN. However, most of the shelves that are empty have left to help the tornado victims.

Not that I am aware of but you can't really believe that if you have one eye on the tv.
Who can you trust these days in terms of the news media?

I think it's a real thing and the fact that there is no cure and people are dieing makes me take it seriously. Not much I can do except be aware and react to symptoms.

No hysteria.. although some I know are choosing not to fly and particularly not to infected areas .. which makes sense. I have yet to see anyone with a mask... overall, from what I see, things are calm, and most folks just waiting it out

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area where a cruise ship is being denied docking privileges because the crew and passengers have been exposed to the Covid-19 virus. One man who disembarked from that ship at the end of a previous cruise recently has died of the virus. At the same time he disembarked, hundreds of other passengers also left the ship and disbursed themselves to many and various locations. How many of these people may have been infected and are now sick and spreading the disease is an unknown number. It is the people, with the crew, who boarded after that cruise ended to start a new voyage who are now stranded on the ship and being tested for the virus.
I don't think hysteria is the right word. If you would not be concerned about what is happening all around you, you are out of touch with reality.
