Their state license could be on the line. Hygiene is huge in that industry. And all it takes is one narc. And as we know they're everywhere now.

What if that sylist/manicurist is carrying the disease and infects his/her entire client base?

1. If I were him/her, I wouldn't want to venture into the unknown (private residences).

2. If I were the homeowner, I wouldn't want anyone in my home that hasn't been holed up in the home with me for the past month!

3. Then, there's the liability issue - for both the manicurist/stylist AND the homeowner.

Nope, I'm passing! I can do my own mani/pedi and trim my bangs until the cows come home!

Richie Alan Naggar you are thinking like an entrepreneur, I love it. Sadly however, they are not essential services, so they are breaking the law and could get fined and jeopardize their license.

I helped my bride with her mani, I removed all her enamel nail polish and filed and buffed her nails while I was at it.

This seems to border on sneaky(to say the least) in my opinion.  That's definitely a border to avoid.

Well, because someone who is going into many people's homes could be putting themselves at risk. What if they need to use a rest room? Or put their hands on the faucets to turn water on/off? etc etc.

Also, if they've been told not to by the state, they could risk their job/livelihood/reputation.

My hairdresser said she would make house calls... the problem is that I don't know where she's been. Also very hard to cut hair well with gloves on. And the exercise puts us in very close proximity. I'll wait...

Besides, there's the issue of putting their license at risk, since they've been declared a non-essential business. I'm a non-essential business here in Charlotte as well and I'm following the rules.

Candice A. Donofrio has the actual answer.  It is a licensed profession.  They could have their license revoked if they did this.

It's a legal issue with their state license.  I can do my own mani/pedis.  Hair is whole 'nother issue.

In addition to what's been said above, esp by Candice A. Donofrio and Kat Palmiotti , the gloves and mask are part of the problem...if they go into a home or touch a surface w/ Covid. Of course that's more common where I live.

It is non-essential and social gathering less than 6 feet apart. I would not want my person in my home because I don't know who else they have been around and possibly infected by.  It is just not worth it.  I care about how I look but not enough to take such risks.

I think it all has to do with that state license on what they can or can not do. But I love the idea.

Their liability insurance will not cover them for this. Lots of businesses have been told by the insurance companies to stop working. If you ignore the stay at home warnings you are probably voiding your life insurance policy and definitely any liability insurance and quite possibly your health insurance. Remember, insurance companies are always looking for a reason not to pay.

Most manis and pedis wear masks anyways due to the chemicals in the air.  Should be an easy "no-brainer" for them to travel and do this.

In my state, it would be criminal right now.  Under order of the governor, we have to stay at home unless we are performing an essential service or one of the exceptions (which are defined in the order).  Going to a person's house to give them a haircut is not one of the exceptions.

So, the customer would not be violating the law because they are at home, but the hair dresser would be committing a crime.

My hairstylist prepared a touch up kit for me; there is also a petition to allow one customer in store at-a-time (I am not in favor).  Personally, I wouldn't want a manicurist in my home as I don't know their lifestyles e.g. how many in their household and how careful they all are in terms of observing distancing and other protocol. Many of the nail people in my area live in Queens, which is one of the densest and hardest-hit boroughs in New York City. I think we can manage on our own for a while; there are ways to be self-sufficient. Plus, where do we go to be seen these days?!

I know a lot of them in area and they still working.

I'd rather be without "mani's and pedi's"... and advised them do not visit my office now.

I cut my nails short and it feels good.
