AR also offers a back up from your My Home page.

Left sidebar, BOTTOM My Blog, then Export Blog Entries.

Just a few moments and all posts are exported in a zip file.
The formatting won't stick, nor will photos, but the text of all posts are in the file.

Thinking about it. My personal solution has been to stop posting here in the rain and to focus on building pages on my website's blog.

Most of what I post these days originates on another site or tool.  AR is usually the second site I post any significant blogs to.

I always save all my posts in a txt file.
Both the text only and the html code.

It's good to also save the html code, because it keeps the formatting you've done already.

Years ago I thought of this and had a friend of mine download and copy all my posts (what a task) but they did it for me. Then it hit me. I put that "stuff" out there to work. The real find? IT'S ME the guy who wrote all that stuff!

Thankfully, my biz does not depend on AR and my own website is the center. So I mainly post on there and have daily backups.

I did writea post on here after the crash and saved it.

hoping everything is restored here soon as the backlinks will help.  The posts themselves are not that critical and could be rewritten if need be.

I put my posts (well, except for AR specific posts) on my other website first, then copy them here. I think I'll be fine if I keep doing that.  Hopefully!

I already draft mine on Word. I like the export tip too. I just don’t feel like reposting and reformatting them.

ActiveRain Member Support Would you keep us posted on when the restoration is complete?  I have a post that is missing.  I have a copy of it in Word, so it's not an issue for me to repost it.  I just don't want to repost it, if there is still a chance it will be restored.

For that reason, it would be helpful to know when you have done all you can do to save what was lost.  Thank you.

That would be a good idea. Any platform can disappear. We usually operate on rented space. AR should actually be the 2nd place we post.

I usually created my blog in word, then copy and paste in AR.  So the draft is saved on my computer.  I guess I did that out of habit

I write mine in Notes so that I can dictate them on my phone and then tweak them on my computer - then, dump them onto AR. I cannot imagine losing everything.

The export option is something that then puts them into one place. I'm thinking it wise to do that once a month - especially since we've had this crash more than once.

No, I think that things have happened before & they said they found the data it's just putting it back.

I write things in an old HTML editor & it's basically saved there from past experiences.

I have been writing my posts in Word for years now so I automatically have them saved on the computer and in the cloud. It's just a couple extra steps to copy and paste to AR but it's habit by now.

I need to learn how to use Notes and dictate to my iPhone. That would be a huge timesaver.

My primary blog is on WordPress. My web hosting provider is SiteGround. They do daily backups that can be restored by the user. I download a weekly backup of my WP site to local Samsung flash drive storage and to SpiderOak encrypted cloud storage.

WP allows you to save many draft versions until you Publish the final version of a new post.  But once a post is published, if you are making lots of changes, updates, or additions, the edited version is not stored until you Update the post.

It is good practice to do a major change to a published post using a text editor, autosave it every few minutes, and then copy and paste the final version to WP or AR. I use free Notepad++ as my text editor in Windows 10, with an autosave every 60 seconds. Notepad++ is a more powerful replacement for the default Notepad software in Windows.

AR has always been a back-up and secondary blogging venue for me, Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist  ... as I have my main/primary blog site elsewhere.  AR offers beneficial "extras" that my other site does not ... primarily the social aspect and relationships that it has cultivated.  That is HUGE in my eyes and the reason I've outlasted AR's bumps in the road ...
