I replace only when necessary.

It is possible to do everything on a phone now but I prefer not to.

I don't see how I could work without a computer. Even though I use my phone and tablet it is often hard to get detailed information on the mobile apps. It is impossible to open multiple windows on a phone. For me a computer is still a necessity.

I need my lap top, can't do it all on the smart phone. My lap top will let me know when it's time to get a new one.

I have my 2nd HP all in one 24" touchable screen desktop for "important stuff" and replaced my laptop & ipad for a Surface Book2 with detachable screen.   I also have a waterproof Oasis Kindle just because I like the feel of it for reading as compared to ipad. (My 5th Kindle since they were first introduced in 2007)  I do use iphones but prefer pc for computer work. 
My husband has his own laptop and I've no idea what it is (or if I've ever even seen it, lol)

Technically we can do everything by phone but, what takes me 2 minutes on my computer, takes me 5 on my phone. So, it's not a good time investment to only use my phone!

As for waiting - if I have a sense that something is happening to my computer (typically slowing down), I buy a new one. I can't afford downtime. I also provide my assistants their laptops and the same goes for theirs. They are all Macs so, the chances of one actually crashing is extremely rare.

I currently have four active computers.
One Dell for the purpose of controlling some indsutrial equipment.
2 Surface Pros. These computers literally come apart at the seams. Lower keyboard seperated allowing the parts inside to end up on the wrong side of the enclosure. The other seperated at the top. The display seperated causing extreme color and image distortion and rendering the very expensive touchscreen useless. Both have seperated in place on both top and bottom. I construtced a wooden frame to keep one useable.
So work is accomplished on an HP convertable that cost 1/3 that of the Surface Pro.
Can Real Estate work be one only on a cell phone. yes.
One can also escavate a hole for a pool with a spoon.
With Giga bytes of memory and 5G the capablily of mobile devices will expand exponetually.

I replace every 3-5 years, to keep things on a depreciation schedule.  Was on a longer cycle before real estate.  Prior system becomes a backup in case the primary goes down and also becomes a "project box" and how I can do two webinars at once.

Cannot do this job (or any of my others) in the slightest with a phone, unless that phone can be connected to a monitor and a mosue & keyboard!

My Dell laptop does most of the heavy lifting. I spend most of my computing time in front of it. The new iPhone 12 is a necessity for communications and more but is no replacement for the laptop.

For years I had only one laptop then about 10 years ago it needed repair and the owner of the computer repair assured me that it would be back in a day or two. Well...that stretched into 2 weeks (long story) and when I got it back, it did not work! 

During that time I was forced to buy a new laptop or be out of business and ever since, I have one laptop set up as a desktop with a 24" screen and a laptop that I carry to work. 

I work from a micro desktop computer and I have a laptop.  I imagine I could work exclusively from a smartphone however I choose not to. My computers are my workhorses. I like a bigger monitor as well ... the office environment I have created works well for me.

We have one desktop which I use, one laptop which Ron uses (he will be replacing it when the new ones come out) two ipads ,(we are both voracious readers) and our phones.  We travel with the laptop, i pads and phones. A

Yes we do have several plus ipads and of course phones.  It's too hard to do work on the phone so mainly I do most of my stuff on office computer.

yes we can but I don't like to do it. I don't text fast enough which frustates me. I'm a flash on a laptop so I stick with it.

I would not be able to work only on my smartphone. My laptop is a bit over 2 years old, but I recently ordered a new one as a precautionary measure. I'll use the new one and have the current one as a backup. In a bit over 2 years, I'll do the same.

Funny you should ask. Need to replace my laptop and likely should update my iPad and iPhone. Thinking maybe the iPad first, the laptop next and finally the phone.

We upgrade our computers when needed. Working on a smart phone is not my preference.

I have 3 desktops, 2 laptops, an iPad and two smart phones.  No I don't wait until one dies, hell I own a backup coffee pot (new and in the box) in case the office coffee pot dies.

My Dell Desktop with Windows 7 Professional still works but is no longer supported, so I've been sort of shopping around, and might go with a tablet or laptop next. I can't do everything on a phone.

Hi Peter- we have about 4 laptops and an iPad. And, I have many things available in the cloud. My husband likes the Lenovo (formerly IBM Thinkpad) and can easily work on them so that's what we use. 

Many things are easier done on the phone, but I still like to do contracts and disclosures and other forms on my computer. 

I COULD work with a phone only but have no desire to do so. I like the ease of typing on a regular keyboard and of being able to view everything on a big screen.

I would not wait for my computer to die. I don't want to be without one.

I have a desktop and a laptop.    In our business, I believe we have to have a back-up plan to accomplish our tasks.

It would take a bit to count all the computers I have.

and NO, I would be quite set back without a computer.

A Smart Phone and a PC or Mac are both needed for a Realtor.  There are some items that work better on one than the other and both have these specialties.  I have technical support for my computers and will continue to use them until the tech let's me know that my computer is now obsolete.  Most problems are either the internet service, a virus or a hardware issue.

My laptop has to keep working until it dies a natural death OR it moves so slow that I have to retire it. Interesting to note that the phone will end up ruling over all things (known or not) eventually. In my lifetime? Perhaps however I may not be interested...LOL
