Open Shot Video Editor.  100% Free and open source.  Comparable to Adobe's product.  OBS Studio is another one, but that's more geared for recording your desktop during a live stream (used for streaming gaming sessions to subscribers... apparently that's a thing now).

I am so glad you asked this Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® e-Pro CRS RCS-D Vets and equally glad Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA answered because I am in the exact same boat as you. Besides MS I used to count on YouTube's editor but I can't figure out their editor anymore.

When I updated my PC, I just purchased the paid version of MS Movie Maker. It was not much $$$.

DaVinci Resolve.   Free version is probably sufficient.   Or spend $299 for the Pro version.

   Pretty steep learning curve.

I knew Movie Maker was not available anymore, but still have it on an older laptop, and refuse to get rid of it because of that.   Parked and reading otherwise.

Microsoft Movie Maker was always an excellent app and I was very sad when they discontinued it. Depending on the type of editing you need (varying from simple to complex), there are other free options available.

(1) Microsoft Photos app in Windows 10 & 11  (notice there is a video editor tab in the photos app, you can also launch via "video editor" app listed under the start button). It does all the super basic steps (e.g. arranging clips, trimming clips, adding background music, adding text). It does not do clip transitions (for some reason they omitted this). And there is no timeline view, only a storyboard view for editing.

(2) Clipchamp video editor - Microsoft acquired this late in 2021. This app has paid versions but the free version seems fully capable in my first tests (including export of video creations up to 1080 resolution. They used to only export to 480 for free, but this has been increased to 1080 since the Microsoft acquisition). It does the basics mentioned above, but also includes a timeline view (not just a storyboard) plus you can do transitions and quite few other types of edits. This video by Kevin Stratvert gives a good overview. This is not (yet) included pre-bundled in windows 11 but it probably will be at some point. Meanwhile you can download it from the Microsoft Store in windows.

(3) Davinci Resolve - is a professional level video editor app. But this is not for the faint of heart. You have to be all in to go here because it is a very sophisticated app, but it is free to use. Something to aspire to for anyone wanting the top tier of free.

What to buy for editing depends on what you are putting on the shelves of your video channel. You don't need multi layer editing format for video and audio if only a slide show and audio is just a sound bed filler music. Something free with simple transitions to stitch together is easy peasy but a slide show is not a video... go more robust for B rolls, adding audio from the property listing Thomas J. I used to use Windows Movie Maker too and mourned the loss of it until I discovered that I could continue to use a version of this through Windows Explorer.

Right click on the photos or videos that you want to make into a movie and select "create new video".
