I think we wasted a whole lot of time hearing about him buying Twitter, and now we'll have to waste a lot of time hearing about him not buying Twitter.   Aren't there more important topics for the media to cover?

He backed out because Twitter can't verify their numbers.  Their 5% spam/bot accounts claim cannot be backed up with actual evidence.  That's why he backed out.  Massive lawsuit potential.

If Twitter breached the contract, why should he follow through? That is a lot of money to invest in a virtual company and he needs to hold them to task, he is an extremely smart businessman!

I think he did most of what he set out to do: expose Twitter for what it is and devalue it.   At some point he might reconsider when the stock is at a more realistic price to take over. 

Can't blame Elon, Twitter isn't providing the data he needs to justify purchase. Guess Elon has a great bunch of people representing his interest. Kind of like a Realtor - besides it don't really matter Elon has what we call "FU - Money"... LOL

I don't think much of it. Since "T" has been so involved in fake news and censorship it would lead one to think that Mr. Musk may be on to something that "T" doesn't' want made public.

Elon knows when he is being taken advantage of! He would proceed, if they would let him see behind the curtain. Would you proceed to purchase an alleged 100 barrels of oil if the seller could only deliver 50?

I left Twitter a long time ago.   I don't miss it.  

There is a billion dollar back out agreement by either party. So he will be on the hook for that unless he can find a way out of it. Just heard it on the news tonight.

Tesla board says they will take legal action to enforce Musk's contract to buy Twitter.

Reminds me of a home buyer who is having second thoughts and thinks all they need to do is cancel...forgetting that a contract forged by two parties cannot be unilaterally cancelled by one party.

Since I am not a Twitter stock owner, it makes no diff to me.

In any transaction, even in real estate, the buyer should have the chance to investigate.  If you can't get good information, then you should not make the purchase.  I really do wonder how many fake accounts are on Twitter.  I have been using the site for a long time and continue to wonder if the accounts that follow me are real.

I think Twitter is hiding it's true membership numbers & won't comply with the request. If you're going to sell your business you must open up the books.

This is a LOTTA sunlight being shined on Twitter. Fake and bot accounts have been used since  . . . well we know going back to MySpace. Elon is the king of computer nerd engineers, he HAD to have suspected the value was questionable  . . . maybe he intended to F Twitter by bringing their evidence of fraud to the attention of the SEC.
A very smart guy I follow elsewhere seems to think this is a maneuver and Elon will continue with the deal, retooled.
Negotiations 101: the guy willing to WALK has the upper hand.

The Twitter folks are insane. From start-up, they operated at a loss, gained some momentum and then, the American Dream visited with them i.e., wealth, success and satisfaction. Then, their dysfunction appeared using their powers incorrectly followed by not grabbing the 40 billion they were offered. Wealth, power & fame will corrupt if not commanded correctly

He laid out his terms and conditions up front but they have refused to comply. Would you buy a business if the seller refused to provide full disclosure and did not honor the T&Cs you set out.

Mr. Musk is a very powerful man, he has power to improve and destroy pretty much any company, and it makes no difference what other people think of his emotional or strategic decisions. 

Being lied to with false and misleading information (let's just call it misinformation and disinformation) is what attorneys call a breach of contract and a good cause to "back out".

Elon is far from the stupid, evil, and corrupt that attempted to bamboozle him! 

Twitter lied big time.  I think they won't be successful in suing him.

I think he realized he could no longer afford it after all of his child support payments.  

He realized he was making a mistake and was smart enough to get out before too much damage was done.

I thought the whole thing was a scam and doomed from the start. You would think Musk left himself more than one way out of that contract/deal. I can think of lots of better ways to spend/invest 40+ Billion.

I think he sobered up to the idea and realized it wasn't a prudent investment. Now he's searching for the loophole to exit the contract. In it's own twisted way, it's no different than one of our Clients backing out of an escrow in favor of a different property.

Elon is a bit of a flake.
