We don't have much winter in my neck of the woods, so my usual attire during the winter months is shorts and a t-shirt, haha.  I am grateful for that.

Even though this a fun twist on a serious seasonal issue, I remain grateful that "too cold" is another exaggeration expressed by more than a few Southern Californians.  Although, some think of shopping as a sport, I am more comfortable by the sidelines - especially when extra or chilly weather clothing.accessory purchases are necessary.

Have you tried LL Bean or REI? My grandmother (from VA) used to host family reunions at Pipestem Resort State Park each year. She loved the cold and always hosted during the late fall/early winter months. She & PawPaw rented a cabin for each family - all in a group. I have such fond memories of building roaring fires in those fireplaces in the cabins to keep warm. That's the only time I remember always having to have a really nice winter coat! Good luck in your search, Fred!

LL Bean or Land's End used to be good but I haven't shopped either in years. Shipping and delivery time is a problem unless you want to upgrade to next day air/second day air. In a pinch, Amazon does carry some name brands and with Prime delivery is 1-2 days so you could get one or two things to hold you over until you find what you want.

I used to buy a lot of my clothing at Macy's, but they have changed so much they no longer have what I need. REI has some great hiking gear, but I find a lot of great jackets at, believe it or not, Costco.

Now that I go south for the winter, I have more coats, gloves, and hats than I will ever use. I think the last coat I bought was at Kohls. I don't know if Penney's is still an option. They started closing stores in 2020. I have no idea if they have decent inventory in the ones that are still open.

Not sure what you are looking for exactly. I typically go through the winter with a hoodie, but have a couple of jackets depending on the need.

CanadaGoose.com or HellyHansen.com could be good places to start or

REI...is the place to buy. Their return policy is superior to anything out there driven by NO QUESTIONS ASKED for one year & sometimes longer. Plus, they have sales & you also acquire spendable points too. Why go elsewhere?

When we lived in the Boston area, and even after moving, we bought lots of clothing from L.L. Bean in Maine. The quality was excellent.

Fred, if you have a good military surplus store within a hundred miles, it might be well worth your time to look for winter military surplus gear, especially being in the South where they might want to move inventory.

I scored this USAF Artic parka that was new,  and I actually was sweating walking out in the Blizzard of 1977-78 when the temps were 25 below zero actual temperature WITH a 35 knot wind.  It is incredibly warm!   I also found a USN felt face mask in an old antique/junk shop for $2 that our sailors wore in WWII while making the covoy runs to Murmansk in the North Atlantic.

Hi Fred- I don't do wool and we don't need heavy winter clothing here. Have you considered LL Bean or Eddie Bauer, and Nordstroms..

I bought the (east TX) BF two Baerskin Tacticals (hoodie and jacket) for last Xmas and he raved about them. Just got myself one for walking the mutt in the icy wind (it's sunny and not 'that cold' but 25-35 MPH winds can make it feel that way!)

My son and daughter do not live in the South. For them, I shop at L.L. Bean Catalogue. They have been in business since 1912. When I lived in Maine, I would shop at their store in Freeport, ME to buy my kids winter clothing before going back to Chicago. I still order from the catalogue with no problem, and they are easy to talk to on the phone. ll bean catalog official site - Search

Well I'm late to the snow party and I'm not really any help in finding good winter clothes as 1, don't need many in PHX and 2 don't like to travel to cold country in winter.  I used to find colder weather cloths at Dillards but I haven't been to that store since they closed the one close to me down to build a new mall (city).  Maybe Costco?  I saw a nice warm coat jacket there the other day and just might go back and try it on.....for our limited cold nights and mornings!

REI has great stuff that's available online - everything is quality there and they have a very liberal return policy for anything you don't like.

Any town with more than 10 inhabitants probably has a boutique shop as well - - most of these are expensive but offer quality items.
