Are You Over-Decorating? 5 Things That Turn Buyers Off InstantlyWe all want our homes to feel personal, stylish, and full of character. But if you’re thinking about selling, there’s a fine line between cozy and “can’t unsee it.” In Auburn and Opelika, I’ve toured plenty of beautiful homes that sat longer on the market simply because the decorating overwhelmed buyers.Want to sell faster and for more money? Avoid these five over-decorating mistakes that turn buyers off immediately:• Too Many Bold Paint ColorsOne statement wall? Sure. But a different neon shade in every room? That’s a hard pass. Bold colors can make rooms feel smaller and distract buyers from the bones of your home.• Over-The-Top Themed RoomsYes, your Star Wars room is cool — but a floor-to-ceiling Millennium Falcon mural ...

Our state is on its knees as we continue to see the ravages of the devastating floods that have gripped the heart of our hill country. The Guadalupe River and many other beloved tributaries in this area are known for numerous campsites, RV parks, and the many children's campsites. As a lifelong Texan, I have vacationed in this area many times. As the news began to come in yesterday on this holiday weekend, we were gripped as we saw the images coming in. The 4th of July holiday is one of the busiest times for our river communities. While flash flooding has happened before in this area, much like the events that wiped out the areas in North Carolina recently, this was an unprecedented event. There was simply no way to prepare for this freak storm, and, because the water rose as quickly as i...

So, who does not love Fried Chicken? Bill  Every year on July 6th, and this year on Sunday July 6th, 2025 we celebrate and enjoy the unofficial National Fried Chicken Day. Fried chicken is a dish consisting of chicken pieces floured or battered, then pan-fried, deep-fried or pressure-fried. The breading adds a crisp coating to the exterior of the chicken. Knowing how to get a good crisp on the chicken involves seasoning well and early in the process, adding starch to your flour and frying your chicken at the right temperature. Rest the chicken before serving to allow the juices to be absorbed back into the meat. Perhaps there are might be other ideas to celebrate the National Fried Chicken Day. I want to wish to all my friends and to all members at Active Rain community a Happy and Wond...

How do you weigh a pie? 🎵 Somewhere over the rainbow, weigh a pie! 🌈 Playing with words is a favorite past-time and every chance to share something to bring a smile or laugh is an opportunity to connect with people online or in person. Quite often, the message is relayed in a lighthearted manner. Making others feel special is the goal. Some days, I accomplish that and even if only one person appreciates the message, it can give me a much needed boost and most relationships thrive on mutual investment and reciprocity. That's my Ted Talk for the day. Thank you for being a part of it on Funday Sunday!

During a recent listing interview, I was kind of ambushed by my prospect, as I removed my presentation binder, laptop and "magic box",  she said, "Before I even let you get started with all this, can you condense your entire presentation down to a single sentence?" 😗Huh?!?This homeowner was a self-proclaimed busy executive—one of those self-important, busier-than-me types. I took a moment to think, and thanks to my blogging experience, I relied on a catchy title I created on the spot. Additionally, my 25 years of Toastmasters training helped me craft a compelling response:I replied, "I provide your with an unfair advantage in the market for the sale of your home with the Hindsight - Insight - Foresight my experience and training has afforded me."I find the trick with rapid personalities...

If you've ever wondered how long the average homeowner actually stays in their house before moving on , you're not alone. Have you ever thought about sharing a home? Inspired by the beloved TV show "The Golden Girls," this idea could transform your life into a fun-filled adventure. Imagine waking up every day to the laughter and companionship of friends who support you. Living together can eliminate feelings of loneliness while creating a nurturing environment where you can thrive.I wrote a post earlier about multigenerational living, and my friend Carol Williams mentioned the idea of sharing a home. By sharing a home, you can combine your resources and hire all the help for chores like cleaning, cooking, maintenance, and gardening. This means less time focused on mundane tasks and more time for what truly matters: enjoying life together. However, if you love to cook or enjoy gardening, you have the choice...
