James Chalmers was born in Scotland back in 1782. In 1809, he moved to Dundee where he established himself as a newspaper publisher, bookseller and printer. He was a strong advocate fighting for the repeal of taxes on newspapers and newspapers advertisements. However, his calling was that of postal reform. In 1825, he positioned Robert Wallace to speed up the mail, convincing them to save nearly a day in the delivery of the mail. During the rest of his life he continued to advance his cause. What you may not know about James is that he is credited for being the first person to invent the adhesive postage stamp in 1838. I know this one is shorter than my usual blogs, hope you enjoy. Until tomorrow keep a smile on your face and a penny in your pocket
