Emil Theodor Kocher was born in Bern, Switzerland back in 1841 to Jakob and Barbara. The family moved to Burgdorf, he moved back to Bern where he went to middle and high school. He started his studies in 1858 at the University of Bern. He obtained his doctorate in 1865. At 30 you could find him as a professor at the University of Bern.He served in that capacity for 45 years. During his tenure he published 249 scholarly articles and books, trained numerous medical doctors, treated thousands of patients. His success was due to many things, but we’ll cover a few.
