Abel Janszoon was born in Lutjegast, Netherlands back in 1603. I have no information about his parents or education. What I can tell you is the rest of the story. other than his date of birth the first source mentioning Abel was in 1631 when as a seafarer, he became engaged to Jannetje. In 1633 he was working for the Dutch East India Company on a voyage to Seram Island. He escaped being killed by the people of Seram, why they killed most of the crew is not known. In 1639 he was second-in-command on a voyage in the North Pacific. There were writings about land however, maps were not readily available to them. In November of 1642 Abel sighted the west cost of Tasmania, in December of that same year he planted a Dutch flag on the cost claiming possession of Tasmania to the Dutch. He weighe...

Bernice Shiner was born in Ernest, Pennsylvania back in 1931. I have no history about her schooling, childhood however I do know one thing. She loved to play a game. More later on what that game was. In her mid-thirties she was already married and working as a secretary. According to what I’ve read one night she told her husband she was going to pursue the game that she loved.Well to accomplish that goal she had to go back to school and she did so in 1967. She excelled in her training however at the time there were no facilities for females and she had to stay in a local motel during that training. She was rejected for gender stating she did not meet the physical requirement for the job. So what is a red-blooded American woman to do? Well I’m so glad you asked that question as I know th...

How much “veldt” do you have?   Well it looks like the jokes and one liner(s) are over for a few days.  We’re back to wordsmith here on AR.   The veldt here is going away but at a slower rate than elsewhere in the States.  Once prized by everyone other than for a few die hard it is vanishing and with it goes part of the American history.  Of course it will remain in all the States but not like it was in the1800’s or early 1900’s.  The meaning of (velt) is open grassy country, grassland.  With farmers getting more crops out of less and less land the land not needed is being sold off due to the expanding population.

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his cell phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, 'James, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 40. Please be careful!' 'James,' James said, ‘it’s not just one car... It's hundreds of them!' What say you?

I took the wife to see Planet of the Apes today. I hear some of my close relatives have starring roles. I'm gonna try and not make any trouble today but if some buffoon is sitting in front of me texting, I can't make any promises.   NYPD, FDNY, AND EMS OFFICERS WERE NOT INVITED TO THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY CEREMONY OF 9/11... MAYOR BLOOMBERG CLAIMS THERE IS NO ROOM FOR THEM... 10 YEARS AGO, THEY WEREN'T INVITED BUT THEY SHOWED UP!!! REPOST IF YOU AGREE THEY SHOULD BE THERE.  I WONDER IF THERE WAS ANOTHER DISASTER (GOD FORBID) IF THEY WOULD NEED AN INVITATION TO ATTEND.  WHAT A DAMN NUCKLEHEAD.
