Fishing is Great!  Lake Norfork, Mountain Home, Arkansas.  Lake Norfork is Man Made lake...Over 550 miles of shoreline that was created by damming the North Fork of the White River.  Construction of the Norfork Dam was completed in the 1940's.                                                                            The Dam was built to stem flooding in north central Arkansasand it has done a great job of this!  The tail-waters of the Dam provide some of the very best trophy trout fishing in the world.  For years a 47 pound brown trout caught below Norfork Dam was the world record caught on rod and reel. Norfork Lake has become a trophy fishery in its' own right!  Anglers chase and catch trophy Striped Bass!  It is very common for 25 to 40 pound Stripers and 40 to 50 pound fish are cau...

Scouting builds character in young men!  A New Eagle Scout was recognized this past week!  As Past Scoutmaster and Past Order of the Arrow Adviser,  It has been my privilege to speak at several of these functions.  Troop 156 here in Mountain Home, Arkansas has been active over the years and we have several young men that have earned the highest rank in scouting....that of Eagle Scout.                                                         I usually have a prepared talk that I give at these occasions.  This young man emailed me a script and I was happy to read what he had prepared...other than making sure that his parents and he knew that I was proud to be asked to speak on his behalf, and that I was proud to have been part of his scouting career.                                  Scouti...

Special Olympics funder raiser is near and dear to the North Central Board of Realtors here in Mountain Home, Arkansas.  Our board decided 25 years ago to make The Special Olympics our project!  The Arkansas Realtors Association  has done the same thing within the state.  Saturday 5/8/2010 we had a benefit golf tournament at Twin Lakes Golf Club here in Mountain Home.  The Realtors Association (North Central Board of Realtors) did a great job soliciting prizes for the golfers.  Bank of the Ozarks provided coffee and donuts as well as healthy fruit (who eats that healthy stuff???) for the golfers in the morning.  The Bank of The Ozarks also provided a Pulled Pork BBQ from local eatery Brent's BBQ with potato salad, pickles, coblers, and cookies for lunch after the tournament.  Wow, we ha...

What's Happening? New Construction...Mountain Home, Arkansas ,  I know a weird title, but it has been a while since I posted a Blog so bear with me.  Living in a small town...(11,500) We get excited when we see a bulldozer working on a vacant lot.  Maybe it is that way even in a city, but I know it is that way in Mountain Home.  We have all been beat up by the Recession over the last 2 years...It is sure good to see commercial construction and remodeling going strong here. The Photo on the left is the Old Pizza Inn.  The word is that it will be a new health food store.  I will give a better report on it when open.  The building on the right was originally built as a First State Building and Loan building.....had been a branch bank for years and was recently sold and currently being rem...

Termite Contracts in the South are very common.  I have buyers and sellers ask me constantly...."are Termite Contracts really necessary?"  You Betcha!  In My market, Mountain Home, Arkansas they are totally necessary!  We have the subterranean termites here as do most areas of the southern mid-west and south. Typically The Pest Control company pre-treats the ground on new construction.  On existing structures, they have to drill the foundation to make sure the chemicals can get where they need to be.  I bought a house for my family to live in 5 years ago.  It had a termite contract on it, which was great.  My problem arose when the company that had the contract was found to be unscrupulous and went out of business.  I really did not think it would be a problem for me....surely he sold h...

Making a Difference got paid forward with Small Acreage Home Sale.  I Listed this home for a wonderful lady Friday afternoon.  She was referred to me by her neighbors, the Smith's.  I worked with the Smith's to find their home 3 years ago.  They are down to earth retired farmers from the upper mid-west.  Click for Small Acreage Homes near Mountain Home, Arkansas.                                      We had a bad ice storm here a year ago.  I tried to contact my clients that I felt might need help as we were expecting to be without power for several days.  The storm was a freak and hard to deal with, but at the same time inexplicably beautiful.  I stopped by the "Smith's" to make sure that they were doing OK.                                                        She was happy to see me ...

I have made a decision to Be Part of The Solution and Have Success in My Market here in Mountain Home, Arkansas.  I continue to have folks ask me "How's the Market?".  I am happy to explain to them how it really is and that I can help them be part of the solution and have success.  I am here to help them whether they are first time home buyers or shopping for their dream home overlooking the lake or the river.       It begins with me believing that the purchase of Real Property makes a community stronger and increases values within the community.  I understand that there will always be folks that rent for one reason or another.  I also understand that when people invest in their community by purchasing a home or investment property those people have a vested interest to be part of the s...

I got involved in Boy Scouts...Cub Scouts actually as an adult leader when my oldest son was only 5.  We went to Pack meetings and Den meetings and the chaos was incredible.  Imagine 40 to 60  5 to 10 year olds in the cafeteria in various states of costume.  I was on the verge of walking out...."I don't have time for this nonsense".  A gentleman tapped me on the shoulder and asked " which one is yours? "...with a chuckle.  I pointed to my son and it turns out that my son and his grandson were already buddies.  That was the start of a 16 year friendship with this man that always did for others before doing for himself.   Scouting has certainly changed over the years, but it still does a great job of fulfilling one of its greatest tasks....Building Character in Young Men.  Gerry was alw...
