Memories!  You want memories!  We have found them!Let's assume you went to school in White County AR sometime from about 1950 to 1974.  W. E. Orr, from Judsonia, was instrumental in beginning and continuing a White County Girls' Basketball Tournament during those years.  It was called "The South's Most Spectacular Cage Tournament" with a new program made up each year. His daughter, Fonda McCarty,  has a wealth of not-used and saved programs from those years.  Go right now to That's Judsonia on facebook and find her comment and pictures about the programs.  Click here. She is selling the old memory books for $1 each!  They are SO interesting.  I was fortunate to have a few given to me earlier by friends and I treasure them and have done several blogs about the girls' teams that participa...

This post card is on ebay right now and I do not know what Echo Haven is or was but it must be affiliated with Harding University in Searcy AR because it is labeled Echo Haven Harding College.  The picture shows a nice little brick house but there is no address.  I graduated from Harding and I have watched Harding grow for the past 45 years.  BUT I do not remember hearing about this place. So, Sleuths, help me out.  Tell me about this Echo Haven.

Harding University, Searcy AR, is changing and changing rapidly.  A few months ago I wrote a blog about houses that were already history. Today, I snapped a picture  of a few of the new buildings that have taken the old houses's places.  In case you haven't noticed, the rock and frame apartments that used to line E. Pleasure Avenue are now gone with nothing remaining but a few piles of the native rock that was so popular with building styles in the 60's. Just to keep the memories straight, here is the Google view (remember they are a bit slow about keeping up) of the apartments that are now history. It is a whole new look for Harding University and for Searcy AR.  The new buildings really are lovely.  So if you are visiting Searcy be sure to drive to the University and see the changes.

I remember. I remember when this style construction was so popular.  I loved the look of native rock and frame combined. I especially liked ranch houses built with this combination.  Evidently Harding University in Searcy Arkansas also liked the look because there are several apartment complexes built along E. Pleasure as you approach Harding that were probably built back then. They are going down!  Your roving blogster took these pictures.  I like best the rock walls.   They are being replaced with some gorgeous buildings that I blogged about a few weeks ago.  See that blog here.   Their removal just adds to the changing look of Searcy Arkansas and Harding University.  We can't say that they were historic buildings but they can be remembered as part of our history.
