Fountain Hills is a quaint little town with many events happening during the winter months. This weekend on Avenue of the Fountains,the town is presenting the "Great Fair" which features nearly 500 artists showcasing their paintings, sculptures, photography and one-of-a-kind crafts. The first annual Chinese culture and arts festival featuring giant, colorful lanterns, acrobatic arts, cuisine and souvenirs will take place Friday January 31 through Thursday February 9th at Fountain Park in Fountain Hills. The Festival celebrates the Chinese New Year and 2014 is the Year of the Horse. The event will feature dozens of large, richly colored lit displays made from special silk material depicting animals, characters, gods, angels, flora and structure. There will also be cultural dancing, puppets, food, tai chi and kung fu demonstrations, crafts, and music. Festival times are 3-10 pm Monday through Friday and noon to 10 pm Friday and Saturday. A new trail has opened near Fountain Hills in McDowell Mountain Regional Park- Escondido- or “hidden” in Spanish- is the name of the trail. The 6.2 mile Escondido Trail opened in mid-December and marks the third new trail of five planned for the park. The new park brings the total trail mileage to 65. The trail is also linked to a camping area, which is nice for overnight campers. The trail is open to horseback riders and mountain bikers as well.
