Saguaros are one of the natural treasures of Arizona. These georgous plants take many years to grow tall into stately beauties with arms. They are not inexpensive to buy. Saguaros have been stolen in the past few years from state land and national parks and are being sold to homeowners and landscapers. To prevent this, Arizona has implemented a program to insert a microchip into cactus which can be detected with a special wand. Gold Canyon Arizona has a unique group of artists. This year, for the second year, the group is planning a unique artists tour on November 1st and 2nd, 2008. The uniqueness of the tour is that the artists invite touring participants to come to their residents or other place where they create their art and watch them at work. You get a glimpse inside their world and what happens to create the beautiful art that they create. The group began first with three artists, then ten and now they are up to 35. In this difficult, tough economy there are more people in need of assistance at their local food banks. If there are those of us who have what we need and can spare some food for food banks in our local communities, without a doubt they will appreciate the help. This week we went by our local Gold Canyon food bank to make a donation and there was a sign that said they did not have enough supplies to help people until closer to the end of the month. The "snow-birds" are beginning to return to Gold Canyon Arizona. (Snow-birds = residents who leave for the hottest summer months to go to a cooler climate.) The weather is becoming more mild. And Gold Canyon is introducing an outdoor marketplace for small businesses, political candidates and individuals called Marketplace at Gold Canyon. Gold Canyon Arizona is on the forefront of a citizens program called Citizens on Patrol, otherwise known as C.O.P.. About two years ago Pinal County decided to use Gold Canyon for a pilot program. Basically citizens pass a series of tests and then donate time to patrol the community in a fully functioning sheriff's car. The mere presence of this car patrolling helps to deter crime. This unique event includes overnight at the charming bed and breakfast, plus late afternoon "birding" at Besh-Ba-Gowah Archaeological Park followed by a 60 minute class about the birds. If you live in or around Gold Canyon Arizona, there have always been very limited options that are logistically close with opportunities to buy organic produce. The local Gold Canyon grocery store, Bashas, always has a limited selection of organic foods, but these are usually just the "basics" and for people who eat organic they are left wanting more -- more varieties. Rising to the need, Sadies Organic Market "happens" on most Saturdays and some Sunday's across the street from the Sheriff's office in the parking lot of Adeana's Antique Store. Gold Canyon Arizona has a new Chicago-style sandwich shop called, Hawgs N Dawgs. This shop will serve fast foods such as flame broiled hot dogs, burgers, and hot and cold sandwiches. Gold Canyon Arizona has a restaurant that has been redone with a new menu and new owners. Now called "Firehouse Bar and Grill". This restaurant under new owners is located 2 blocks north of US Highway 60 on Kings Ranch Road. If you live in Gold Canyon Arizona, there is no local post office. The nearest US Post Office is in Apache Junction Arizona which is about 10 minutes away. But no longer do residents have to go to Apache Junction when they need to mail a package, get stamps or handle other mailing needs. There is a new store in Gold Canyon called , Goin Postal. Owned by Tim and Amy Pettigrew, the couple are providing Gold Canyon Arizona residents with a one-stop shop for all their postal needs. In addition to the services of the US mail they offer other shipping services such as Fedex, UPS, DHL and others. They also offer passport photos.
