The "snowbird" season has begun. Every year about this time a migration begins of approximately 30,000 people arriving to the Gold Canyon and Apache Junction Arizona, as well as some surrounding areas. As predictable as a migrating duck, these people arrive and enjoy all the beauty of the Superstition Mountains, the wonderful warm weather and seasonal activities. The local merchants enjoy a burst of additional business. Some businesses notice a particular spike in activities. Local restaurant owners report that "snowbirds love to go out for breakfast". Many of these "snowbirds" have homes in the local area, but in the hot summer months they migrate back to their northern homes, returning to their Arizona home in the fall and staying through spring to enjoy the weather, while the folks b...

A proposal is underway to try and bring about a partnership between Gold Canyon Arizona and Apache Junction Arizona to create a dog park that would be able to be utilized by both communities. Gold Canyon is in an unincorporated area that is adjacent Apache Junction Arizona. Gold Canyon had been donated a parcel of land, but there have been issues because Gold Canyon is not incorporated that have made it not possible to date for the land to be used. The City of Apache Junction has expressed interest in looking at a possible partnership. One of their requirements would be for the land to be within the Apache Junction boundaries. Marta St. James has been a spokesperson for the development of a dog park in the area through her non-profit organization D.O.G.. If you are an animal lover and w...

Gold Canyon Arizona is a beautiful community at the foothills of the Superstition Mountain. Here the community is rallying about to support Afghanistan youth. Gold Canyon's own Major Bryan Martyn who is stationed in Afghanistan recently visited two schools in Kabul. The Boys' School has 10,000 students and 300 teachers. The Girls' School has 7,300 students and 240 teachers. These are children aged 7-15 years of age. These children desperately need school supplies such as pens, pencils, crayons, rulers, math work books, backpacks, maps, globes, computers, clothing (particularly coats, gloves, scarves and shoes for cold weather). Cash contributions to the Project "Say Yes" program are handled through the Pinal County Sheriff's Justice Foundation and are tax deductible. For information abo...

Silly Mountain is a steep peak between Apache Junction and Gold Canyon Arizona, just north of Highway 60. Wonder why a mountain has a name called Silly Mountain? It was named after Harry Calwalader, a Pinal County Arizona public works employee who owned the second home to be build on the road leading up to the mountain. One day he told his supervisor he wanted to name the mountain Silly Mountain Road and apparently there were no objections, so the name stuck. The city obtained the rights to 2000 acres on Silly Mountain in 2006 after the end of the 20 year Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lease formerly held by Central Arizona college. For years the mountain was abused with motorized vehicles and trash thrown about by uncaring people. Because there were 4 wheelers attempting to climb the ...

The Gold Canyon Arizona Dog Group (a 501(c)3) which was founded by Marta Saint James, local Gold Canyon Arizona resident, has a goal of raising enough money for Gold Canyon off leash dog park. Right now the closest similar park to Gold Canyon is Cosmos Park in Gilbert Arizona. But a local park where Gold Canyon Arizona area families and dog owners can ake their 4 legged friends is not all the organization has been accomplishing. Among the non-profit's accomplishments are:--Ballistic Vests for our K-9 officers at the Pinal County Sheriff's Office $3,131.60 --A Heat Sensor Alarm for a Posse volunteer who is training, at his own expense and time, a dog to be used by the Pinal Sheriff’s Office $659. --Canine Valley Fever Awareness. Additionally Marta and here group are volunteers at the Uni...

Superstition Foothills is a community of 1058 homes at the foothills of the lovely Superstition Mountains in Gold Canyon Arizona. Residents enjoy desert wildlife, walking paths, hiking trails, a lovely year round heated pool and spa, plus golf less than 15 minutes away. There is convenience shopping nearby and major shopping only about 10 minutes away. Medical centers are close by. It's a perfect place to call home in the Arizona desert. Currently there are several competing trash companies competing for resident's business. This makes for large trucks up and down residential streets several days a week, and trash cans out multiple days of the week. This is not a desirable situation. The Superstition Foothills HOA  Board of Directors is encouraging all it's residents to sign up with Rig...
