In 1943 Abraham Maslow developed A Theory of Human Motivation  stating that their are five distinct levels of Human Needs, and one can not be gained without first attaining the previous level. Basic needs of food, water, shelter must be met before a person is able to feel secure, seek gainful employment, or take the next step upwards to love and belonging.  Last month, when I purchased a small condo, in my new hometown of Kelowna, B.C. I recognized this truth to be a deeper conditioning than I had previously realized. For the first time in 6 or 7 years, I feel at home. I can unpack, more than my boxes! I can gather or collect 'stuff' without thinking of the weight or bulk and the need to pack it and eventually carry it to my next lodging.  This recognition of the calming, peaceful and s...

I was already late as I waited for the green turn light, trying to resist the pull left towards the mountain road. Today would be a good day to drive up the mountain, I mused. Perhaps later, if I complete my tasks before sundown, I reasoned resolutely steering into traffic, following the migration towards city center. But the mountain still called, the blue of the sky, whimsical clouds floating lazily on the horizon. It is almost spring in Kelowna, February 2, 2012. Groundhog day. A brilliant, perfect day. I feel blessed to be a Realtor. I am outdoors most days, meandering through traffic, mixing at sidewalk cafe's, feeling the warmth of the sun as I unlock a red door. But the mountain still called, the gentle breeze almost non existent, the solidarity of the trees defining the grade.  ...

The written word, spoken, sang, dictated, Prayed or said.  Meanings misled. Communications fraught with one liners, cliche's and misspellings. Thoughts we read, are not the things we said. Or the words we dread. Last night, I was privileged to participate in the Spoken Word /Inspired Word Cafe event in Kelowna, B.C. A speak easy style, informal coffee shop gathering of eclectic tastes, and eclectic peeps, brought together by a brilliant man - Rawle Iam James. Inspiration to write, to speak, to compose.  The Written word, taken to another level, another height - spoken by a Wordsmith Master - available on January 31, 2012. Streaming today .... He will speak these words of wisdom .... Going Home ....Thank you Leonard Cohen!!

In Kelowna, B.C., the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board (OMREB) and the RCMP announced the Central Okanagan launch of Realty Watch with 800 Realtors now available to assist police as extra “eyes and ears” in their communities. A community crime prevention and emergency assistance program operating in British Columbia since 1994, Realty Watch has expanded from the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board to the Chilliwack, Greater Vancouver, Victoria and Okanagan Mainline boards, and is now supported by 15,000 Realtors in the province. Realtors observe and report to police a suspicious activity they may encounter during their day-to-day business. The program also enables Realtors to respond to a police activated fan-out to search for missing or abducted children, vulnerable adults (with a physi...

Racing through life as a workaholic, takes time, energy and dedication! As a self-professed workaholic I succumb to a restrictive life of work before pleasure. A task oriented individual believing in cliché’s and adages that condemn play time and exalt To-do Lists.  When my head hits the pillow at day’s end, I smile with satisfaction when there are more ‘done’ tick marks on the list then carry-over items. Please don’t misinterpret this to mean I don’t make time for, or enjoy, leisure or self-indulgent activities, because I do. At the allotted time - and on my schedule. I am a successful, accomplished woman with hundreds of business associates and friends. My life is complete, I am happy. So why am I enrolled in a Travel Journaling class with an assignment of ‘strolling through the marke...

I was  reading the newspaper from home this morning (UK) and on the bottom of page 15 was a little tiny article about what UK home buyers dont like to see when hunting for the perfect property.   Here is the list: Scruffy houses next door Smell of dogs Dirty Bathrooms Weird Odours Net Curtains Solar Panels Trampoline in the yard Mirrored closet doors  Botched DIY jobs Cracked or peeling paint Overgrown yards     What blew me away was the claim that 10% of people would refuse to make an offer on a home if the beds were unmade! Only goes to show that FIRST IMPRESSIONS are so important!  Buying a home is the biggest purchase people are ever likely to make, so in the buyers eyes it needs to be PERFECT!

On November 19th I will be invited to vote in my first British Columbia Municipal Election. As a registered voter, I qualify to place my vote or X beside the 1-Mayor (5 Candidates)  and 8-City Councilor's (42 Candidates) who I deem will best represent my needs over the next 3 years. That is correct - 42 excellent candidates have allowed their names to stand in a bid to be my elected officials. And therein lies my dilemma. Not being a statistician - I am unable to compute the variables available whith so many persons running and each registered and eligible voter being given 8 choices. In my mathematical jumble of comprehension I am able to deduce the most popular candidate may take seats 1, 2 and 3 ... but then name familiarity or alphabetical listings may come into play. Given a list o...

It's really the story about a cow. I often read about the wonders of connectivity, networking, uniting, and referring. How being a Rain Maker can change your profitability in the Real Estate Market. Lots of success stories, remarkable, and true. Exciting stuff! My Active Rain story is slightly different. It is a story about a cow.  And a Rain Maker and good friend Robert Twaron. I am not sure how we found each other, or if he found me, or I found him first - but somewhere, somehow Robert and I connected and started reading and commenting on each others writings. A prolific blogger and creative writer, I was drawn into Robert's stories of Texas, homesteads, relocation's and yes - his cows. Not just any cows, but special Wagyu Beef Cows. It was around about this time that my 4 year old da...

Grizzly Spotted on Old Vernon Rd.???   a little too close for comfort!!!!! Stop, don't shoot the grizzly by Jennifer Zielinski - Story: 64998 Sep 22, 2011 / 12:46 pm Conservation officers in Kelowna are warning area residents not to take matters into their own hands if they spot a grizzly bear in their neighbourhoods. Recently a grizzly (yes, a real grizzly) was spotted near an orchard along Old Vernon Road. According to Conservation officer Terry Myconick a dog scared the bear off, but conservation officers were unable to track it down. "We are not certain it is still in the area, but it probably came down from the higher country and the hope is that it went back up there." Myconick says the bears have a bad reputation and that even the word "grizzly" strikes fear in people. "They are ...
