WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY A HOME FOR $1 ??? Yes, that's not a misprint. This is an old home circa 1930 that is about to be demolished to make way for a townhouse development on the property. It is located in Comox, British Columbia on Vancouver Island, Canada.Do you have a barren piece of land near a lake or a waterfront lot somewhere near Comox, Courtenay, Comox Lake, Horne Lake  or maybe even a farm where it would useful to have a secondary little cottage on it. Perhaps you have a large lot and are about to build on it, then this cottage could serve as an interim home so read on.  The cottage is approximately 1,100 sq. ft. It has 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining and living area. It is quaint but would need some upgrading if kept permanently.HOW DO YOU GET THE HOUSE? There are contractors in th...

So ... last Wednesday I managed to arrange 2 days away from real estate to go skiing with my wife and son. Of course we were all really looking forward to this little break, but little did we know what was in store for us. Mt. Washington is a 4 hour drive from Victoria up the island to Courtney - it was a beautiful day, sunny but cool. I had checked the weather and knew it wasn't going to be perfect, perhaps even a little extra snow. Our first day was great - we had fun with our 6 year old and my 16 year old nephew. Conditions were perfect, we had a good few hours of skiing and my son was even warned by the ski patrol to "SLOW DOWN" on the bunny slopes -and since it was only his second time skiing we thought that was hilarious. Fun on the slopes of Mt. Washington   Next morning ...   Ta...

Phil Leng, of Kirkland, WA gave me an idea for my Blog this morning. He wrote about Native Indian place names in Washington State. I want to share with you a fascinating island called Village Island that housed a now-abandoned community called Mamalilaculla, here in beautiful British Columbia. Located in the Broughton islands, Mamalilaculla, which was originally built on a midden, is an abandoned First Nations community with the remains of an old totem pole rotting away on the ground. Bear scat is often evident near the bushes and the last time I was there (as a teenager) some of the old delapidated buildings from the 1920's still remained. I was told that one of the buildings served as a hospital, but I don't know how true that was. In recent years a Native Indian, whose family had liv...

Indications from real estate market analysts - 2007 is gearing up to be an exciting year in the Comox Valley where homes are still selling throughout winter and there are a number of homes still available, not to mention the usual spring / summer ‘selling season' that is fast approaching. With Home buyers becoming more critical of the homes they are purchasing because of the higher prices, sellers may be forced into accepting lower offe...
