After a couple of rainy weekend days, it felt good to see the sun shining once again today.  I took a drive to William Land Park, to visit the WPA Rock Garden which dates back to 1940.  Originally, the garden was a WPA project started near the end of the Great Depression. In addition to the Rock Garden, William Land Park has a 9 hole golf course, a zoo, Fairy Tale Town, and many picnic areas and ponds.  It consists of 160 acres. For those interested in visiting, the address is 3800 William Land Park Drive, Sacramento.  For more information on the Rock Garden, you can visit:Exploring the WPA Rock Garden in William Land Park

2024 Carlsbad Village Street Faire is May 5 One of our more popular arts and craft fairs returns to Carlsbad Village on Sunday May 5, 2024. The Carlsbad Village Street Faire is reportedly the largest outdoor 1-day fair in the US, other than its counter-part, the Carlsbad Village Faire in November. This is the 50th year for this fair! The Carlsbad Village Street Faire takes place from 8 am until 5 pm, so there is ample time to enjoy over 900 vendors and shop all you want. The Carlsbad Village Faire takes place in the heart of the Village, along Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson. The Faire spills over onto side streets, too. (photo is from another art fair in the Village in the same area).  Given the number of vendor booths much of the public parking will not be available ...

Speechless Sunday: Double Done's with a few extras... I have always had extra food to prepare for a later meal. Needless to say, I made baked potatoes and kept them in the fridge for making a different meal.Well today I thought it would be fun to use my left-over baked potatoes as "Double Dones" and add the leftover vegies from the other day to it. Now with that said I needed to have some meat with it as well. Yes our new favorite chicken sausages were added and it was a total success. So with that said what did you have for dinner tonight? BTW for some reason my actual photos are not working so these photos were from a previous time but the same meal. Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. Happy Birthday to our 3rd President of the United States of America... thank you Kathy Streib  for spreading the word. Most people are too busy with what I call distractions, like the Golden Bachelor getting divorced, our President forgiving College loans to get votes to get reelected and the list goes on and on.Happy 281st Birthday to the 3rd President of the United States. One of my favorite Presidents of the many. I keep this Two Dollar bill next to my home office desk and gives me pleasure to glance there periodically. One might as why? Well, I loved many of his messages that he shared with us. So let me share some of my favorites: "...I think myself that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious. Government big...

Carlsbad Flower Fields Up Close I attended a CRS Networking Event with 25 other Southern California Realtors this past Thursday for a couple of hours at the Carlsbad Flower Fields.  It was fun to see my CRS friends as well as to meet other agents I didn’t know. There was time to talk with each other before taking a tour. After the group photo we split up into small groups to leisurely walk through the gardens, and of course take lots of photos.  While I have often driven by the Flower Fields on Armada Drive on the hill above to the east which offers great panoramic views of the flowers and the ocean, I haven’t seen the flowers and the venue itself up close for years.   It was a sunny day with a cool ocean breeze, although the marine layer moved in before the event was over so it was pre...

One of my favorite places to visit in springtime is Jensen Botanical Gardens. While out and about this morning, I decided to stop by and see what was blooming. Jensen Gardens has pleasant little trails, picnic areas and benches. It is located at:8520 Fair Oaks BoulevardCarmichael, CA 95608. The Gardens were founded by Charles C. Jensen in 1958. They sit on 3 1/2 acres. They became part of Carmichael Recreation and Park District in 1978. For more information about Charles C. Jensen and the Botanical Gardens, visit: Jensen Botanical Gardens

Our Monarch Caterpillar Nursery The nursery is doing well and so are the 10 Monarch Caterpillars, doing what caterpillars do. The Monarch Butterfly visited our back patio several weeks ago and spent quite a bit of time landing on the milkweed plants repeatedly. We didn't see any eggs left behind but that may simply have been our vision as Monarch eggs are supposedly quite small. A couple weeks ago my wife saw a couple of very small caterpillars on one of the milkweed plants and now there are 10 (there were a couple others but they didn't make it for long). They have grown pretty substantially which we hope will help at least some of them survive and move into the next phase (chrysalis), and not become a tasty meal for one of the many birds in our yard. I suspect the mortality rate for c...
