Merry Christmas Camarillo. Have you seen this truck around town? I am talking about the 1968 Dodge, Baby Blue Christmas Truck.I know, I know, you probably know this truck better as the surfer truck; however, every December my husband shows some of his Christmas spirit through his beloved truck.Our avid surfer dude decks the bed and hood of his truck with lights and sleigh bells and brings joy and laughter to those he happens to pass by. This year we bundled up and rode in his merry sleigh around town to spread the joy of Christmas by caroling. As we rode from neighborhood to neighborhoods we picked up more friends/carolers. According to the 2007 UCSB Economic Forecast Indicator, Ventura County's Median Household income is at $77,400 and Ventura County Housing Affordability is estimated at 14%.Upon studying these factors, Camarillo city officials determined that their city is in desperate need of affordable housing.  In January 2008, the apartment complex that is under construction on the corner of Ponderosa and Calle La Roda, consisting of 13 units of 2-3 bedroom apartments, will be the newest development in Camarillo to house families eligible for low-income housing. The units are owned by the Ventura County Area Housing Authorities. The City of Camarillo has also financially helped to make these low-income housing units in Camarillo a possibility.  12/21/2007

On Saturday December 8, beginning at noon, Camarillo will celebrate its 46th annual Christmas Parade. The theme for this year's parade is "A Christmas of Olympic Proportions." The one mile route will start at Las Posas Road and Temple Avenue and will head west towards Carmen Drive to the Camarillo Community Center. The parade will include floats, horses, vintage autos, marching bands, drill teams and many more specialty entries.Earlier that day come and listen to the band competition at 10 a.m. at Temple Avenue and Pondersoa Drive .   This year Camarillo's Park and Recreation center has expanded the parade to also include a Christmas Carnival. You have driven by this sight many times, but probably haven't even noticed this landmark. As a part of Camarillo's Down Town redevelopment project (Ventura Boulevard) the Camarillo City Council has allowed the rezoning of old town's fire station.The Fire Station has been closed since 1995, that's when the station moved to its current location on Pickwick Drive. The property on Ventura Boulevard was originally donated by Adolfo Camarillo himself and the fire station was built on the property in 1941.
