2025 Annual Veterans Day Military Review in Carlsbad ~ Tuesday November 11 ~ The 17th Annual Veterans Day Military Review takes place in Carlsbad on Tuesday, November 11, at Bliss Stadium on the campus of the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad Village. The stadium is just north of the Village at 2600 Carlsbad Boulevard. This special Veterans ceremony runs from 10:45 am to 12:00 noon. The ceremony will include a special speaker presentation, a Military Review by the ANA Corp of Cadets, and a wreath-laying presentation and Taps. There will also be a flyover by the Salute Formation Flying Team. Carlsbad has a very good reputation as a desirable community for a variety of reasons. One is the excellent school system which has won awards a number of times and most recently had elementary schools that were voted the Best of the Best in California. Carlsbad also has excellent arts programs, which include the Cannon Art Gallery (with a number of shows each year and family day activities for each show that are free to the public), the Museum of Making Music, and the TGIF Jazz in the Park series (9 shows) on Fridays in the summer, also free to the public. Tuesday May 8 was a special night for my wife and I. Why? Well we had a terrific dinner at the BlueFire Grill at the La Costa Spa and Resort here in the La Costa area of Carlsbad (links are to community profiles with virtual tours and music) just a short walk from my home.We have eaten there several times and always had a great experience. For some reason this was the best so far. It started with being warmly greeted at the front desk by Rosie (Rosalinda Watling), who manages the restaurant, and ended with a great conversation with Chef de Cuisine, Scott Diehl - more on that later.The BlueFire Grill at La Costa offers both indoor and outdoor dining. In case you have been reading my posts on housing in the La Costa area of Carlsbad ( click link for community profile and virtual tours)and feel that it is too expensive, I put together this summary of the housing options in the area of the golf course and nearby that are all UNDER $500,000. I know that's still a lot of money, except when you consider the median price, and you can see there is a good selection of Carlsbad real estate in this area that is in the $300s and $400s.As of May 2, 2007, there were 90 homes in 92009 (La Costa) that are under $500,000. It was a developer's mistake that should have never happened.Sometime around 1970, the developers of the original La Costa Resort and Spa allowed for the construction and sale of two 48-unit condominium buildings inside what would eventually come to be known as "the gates of La Costa."  These two buildings are the first to be seen by anyone approaching the resort from its main entrance.
