The Beach Grill at Padaro in Carpinteria will reopen its doors with a new look and new owner on May 16, according to owner Brent Reichard. "(The previous owners) called to ask if we'd be interested in doing a new lease there," Reichard told Noozhawk. "At first I wasn't real excited because I was pretty busy with Hook, but then I remembered how cool the property was." Reichard and his brother Bruce founded the now 39-unit, Irvine-based Habit Burger Grill chain three decades ago. The Reichard brothers sold most of the Habit Burger chain to private-equity firm KarpReilly LLC in 2007. It has grown exponentially while the founders have held on to the four units in Santa Barbara, and Brent Reichard opened his first Hook Burger Bistro in Oxnard last November. The new concept at Hook is designe...

After a day of  steady rain and a ten minute barrage of hail, yesterday, we woke up to a clear crisp day.  As we were talking with our dear friend on the phone, Ron noticed that there was snow on the hills above us.  That prompted a trip out camera in hand to record this momentous occasion.  It is that thin line of white on the hill. This Saturday we took a dear friend to the Carpinteria Bluffs, a large park overlooking the ocean.  We packed a picnic lunch and enjoyed our sandwiches and oranges.  Then we walked over to the Carpinteria Harbor Seal sanctuary watch point.  This mile beach is closed to humans, and reserved for the seals who return to have their pups between the months of December and May.  No pups have been born, and we are eagerly waiting to see one, and I have a feeling we will be going to lunch in the bluffs often.  They are white when they are born, and weigh 8-10 pounds. Lots of mothers to be were sunbathing, and chatting with the cormorans, seagulls and pelicans.  Some of them were going and out of the ocean. The males are the ones who usually sleep on their back.  That is one way they can be ide...

This is the scene outside our window early this morning heralding a glorious day of warmer weather. The joy of living in Southern/Central California is that occasionally we get warm days in the winter.  Yesterday, it was in the mid 70's, and today we may be in the high 70's.  Los Angeles is supposed to be even warmer in the mid 80's.  We love those respites, and Ron calls anything about 70, "shorts weather".  We make a point to enjoy the great outdoors with another long walk on the beach at low tide. Happy Sunday!  Ron & Alexandra

We just returned from working with a client in New York's Hamptons.  And although we are back to catching up with things we could not handle long distance, we are delighted to be here in our special corner of the world.  This is one of our favorite spots on one of the bends and further out from there is the seal rookery (nursery) for harbor seals. The birthing months are February through May  The mother seal gives birth in a little lagoon where there is moss and rocks to protect the babies from strong tides, and there is some shallow water where the babies can swim and be protected. The delightful sights of the seals can be viewed from the cliffs above the rookery. You can stand on the cliffs and watch the baby seals play in the water in a little lagoon at the shore. The Seal Watch gou...

This is one of my favorite pictures of the ocean at the end of the day as shot by Ron Seigel, my favorite photographer.  It looks like it is black and white, instead of taken in color!  Have a lovely Sunday! Oct 01, 2010: Now that the beautiful summer weather has hit the central coast, there are lots of great activities to participate in on the weekends. For the first weekend of October, the fine people of Carpinteria (of which I am one) will host the 24th annual Avocado Festival, the largest free festival in Santa Barbara’s South Coast. Carpinteria, a charming little beach town, is just 10 miles south of Santa Barbara and the Avocado Festival is a local tradition of fun and entertainment. The main street, Linden Avenue, is closed down with food booths, avocado education booths, kiddie entertainment areas and unique arts and crafts booths set up for the entertainment of the many families that come. Additionally, there will be over 60 bands performing on 3 different stages and contests for t...

What you are seeing in this picture (taken by my favorite photographer, Ron Seigel) are all the reefs that show up at low tide on the beach, in Carpinteria.  The biggest one is usually half the size as the water is so much higher at high tide.  There is so much more beach to explore and creature to see and photograph.  Stay tuned, more coming. - WATCH VIDEOS-  Buzz-Worthy Luxury Real Estate Websites  Personal Branding Case Studies   Company Branding Case Studies  About Language of Luxury - JOIN THE LOL COMMUNTIY -  GET FLUENT. As Autumn approaches our coastal town of Carpinteria, we have the low tides to look forward as we talk our walks on the beach.  The joy of low tide is that the ocean holds an "open house" by revealing what is happening under the water.  This particular photograph was taken by Ron ofan anemone.  The blue color of the anemone is transparent reminding us of blown glass.  This is just one of the marvels of low tide. - WATCH VIDEOS-  Buzz-Worthy Luxury Real Estate Websites  Personal Branding Case Studies   Company Branding Case Studies  About Language of Luxury - JOIN THE LOL COMMUNTIY -  GET FLUENT. As a luxury real estate marketing professional, you are a source of great information for anyone who is thinking of moving to your market.  Because, you live there and have experienced so many things, you know the shortcuts as well as the special places in your town.  Sharing them with your prospective market can lead them to make the decision to make a move or better yet hire you. Regardless of the ubiquitous reach of the Internet, local knowledge is still the property of the locals who live in the community.  This is true of real estate and special places that are not reported by travel advisors and those who recommend places to eat or visit.  When someone moves into your town, there are a myriad of new relationships to be developed from service professionals to specialty retailers, ...

Orchids have long been considered a luxury.  However, thanks to the advances in propagation, they are plentiful here on the West Coat, where many greenhouses are engaged in the propagation of orchids. Carpinteria is home to many greenhouses growing all types of flowers.  One of our favorites are Phalaenopsis orchids.  They last a long time, and occasionally if they like the spot you have them in send out new shoots of flowers.  I have a lovely white one that has been doing that for 6 months now.  They are a lovely gift for any occasion, and look wonderful in any decor. The owner of Westerlay Orchids gave us a tour of his greenhouse and showed us the process of growing Phalaenopis orchids.  We saw orchids in all stages of growth.  The ones straight ahead are almost ready for the sale...

Cork bark from a Cork Tree As a luxury real estate  marketing professional, staying in touch with your sphere of influence is of paramount importance.  One way to stay in touch is to share your newest and best discoveries as you live your life and explore the ins and outs of your marketplace. This evening we went out to our local wine bar and bistro, Corktree Cellars.  It is located in downtown Carpinteria on our "Main Street," Linden Avenue.  We love going there because the menu is fun, innovative and puts a smile on your face as you read it. The food is great. The wine list is varied and well thought out,  reflecting the bounty of our local wine country known as the California Central Coast. This evening we shared a char broiled romaine hearts salad with blue cheese crumbles, appl...

We took a picture of these ginger flowers that are grown right here in Carpinteria's numerous greenhouses.  These flowers are sold to various stores in the West. They are tall and look like sculptures and other worldly, and be right at home on the set of Star Trek. The vendor and other eager buyers told us that just one stalk will perfume a whole house, and last for 2 weeks.  They have a lovely fragrance to them. - WATCH VIDEOS-  Buzz-Worthy Luxury Real Estate Websites  Personal Branding Case Studies   Company Branding Case Studies  About Language of Luxury - JOIN THE LOL COMMUNTIY -  GET FLUENT. Sunset on Carpinteria beach Luxury real estate marketing professionals can learn about differentiation by observing how cities bring attention to themselves. This supports local business and tourism and can benefit local charities.  It is also a potential opportunity to make your brand known by sponsoring an event which is congruent with your style.  Here is an example. Carpinteria, our home town, is a small California central coast city in Santa Barbara County.  It is known for its avocado ranches, orchid nurseries, organic produce, flower growing fields and polo fields.  It was named by the Spanish as “carpentry shop” because the Chumash Indian tribe made canoes on the beach and used the naturally occurring surface tar to seal their boats. Carpinteria hosts an annual Avocado Festival...

One of the most wonderful promises of the blog, as a communication tool, is that it empowers you to report on local events, customs and perspectives and share them with the world. Localism, a term that is often used to describe this capability, is a powerful strategy for luxury real estate marketing professionals. It can help you to stay in touch with prospective clients who plan on relocating to your area or purchase a second home in your marketplace.   Reporting on local happenings is also great way to of reminding locals (including prospective home sellers and referral sources) about what they love the most about where they live.  You can help them to fall n love with their home town all over again and fall in “like” with you in the process. In our home town of Carpinteria, next doo...
