Still looking for that perfect pumpkin in Chico, CA? Better load up the family, and head to the Book Family Farm.Book’s 250 acre farm, only minutes outside of Chico on Hwy 99 in Durham, is the perfect place to spend a leisurely fall afternoon. We visited Book’s, and were immediately drawn to the Scarecrow Contest. Entries were made by many local schoolchildren, as well as businesses. The winner was awarded a $1000 prize! We especially liked reading the banners the younger children had on their scarecrows. The theme was “It’s okay….” We saw everything from “It’s okay to have big ears” to “It’s okay to like Superman!” There were definitely some scarecrows wearing their hearts on their sleeves!  Because you asked, Francisco Gonzalez and Kate Bourland, here is the other Beer Can Chicken recipe I used for Labor Day!  I think this one is actually a lot less work than the Brewmeister's Beer Can Chicken, but arguably just as good.  Guests who were asked to choose their favorite could not make up their minds!                                     Ingredients for the rub:1 T brown sugar1 T coarse salt1 t fresh ground pepper1 1/2 t ground coriander1/2 t ground cinnamon  Ingredients for the can and glaze: 12 ounces pomegranate juice (I used POM)1 lime3 T melted butter Directions: 1.  Combine the ingredients for the rub in a small bowl and stir to mix. 2.  Pour 3/4 C of the pomegranate juice into a small saucepan.   Boil over high heat until reduced to about 1/4 C (5 minutes or so).  Add ...

My Time at Bidwell Park by Zachary Staggs, Age 13One of the first things that we did when we moved to Chico, CA was go to Bidwell Park.  We were surprised to see that there were a bunch of little spots along the creek with picnic tables and little barbecues. We pointed a few out, but my mom had to have the perfect spot. It had to have some shade, but not too much, and it had to be off the road a ways so that we had some privacy. But we finally found one, and piled out of the car.  It was a great spot!  My sister Alexa was 4, and we made a little shallow area for her. We even built a dam, and got the water pretty high. July 2007 ReportChico home sales are up year-to-date from last year. Roughly 15% more homes sold so far this year, than last year at this time. It is hard to argue that the market is tanking and slow with a figure like that.Much of the increase is from the chico condo inventory. Chico had several large condo developments, converted from apartments, hit the market last year.
