At the end of the last school year, we had to decide whether or not to send my son to kindergarten this fall (he'll be five at the end of October) or to give him another year of preschool.  Once we made the decision to wait another year for kindergarten, we reviewed our options for junior kindergarten. He attended Lil' Lighthouse's 2 day and then its three day program and loved every minute of it.  However, junior kindergarten is five days a week in the middle of the day, and my husband and I were uncertain if this would work for our schedule, so we wanted to look at our alternatives. According to the latest numbers from Mortgage Bankers' Association, 9% of all Americans with a home mortgage are either in delinquent or in default on their mortgages. The effect is being felt in record number of foreclosures and also in bank failures, and now the U.S. Government is planning on taking over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Fannie and Freddie are government sponsored entities which, between the two of them, own or guarantee nearly one-half of the approximately $12 trillion in mortgages in the U.S. In July 2008, Orange County ranked 35 of the 56 counties in California in terms of foreclosures with 2206 notice of defaults filed and 2128 notice of trustee sales.  Where will all of this end? I think I have mixed emotions about the start of school in Eastside Costa Mesa and all of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach for that matter. My son started first grade at Woodland, this is his first year in formal school. He was in CHEP (Community Home Educations Program) through the Orange County Department of Education. It is basically an independent study program for kindergarten through high school. The main primary level (K-2)  school for the Eastside Costa Mesa, Woodland, is full. Woodland is home to the  Friendly Dragons. They are now "overflowing" students to other schools in the Newport Mesa Unified School District that has room. It was a good month in Eastside Costa Mesa. There were twelve sales, combined between both Condos and Single Family Residences. We had seven houses that sold and five condos. They had an average market time or days on market of 102 days. The average sale price for single family residences in Eastside Costa Mesa was $679,000 for the  month of August. Condos sold for an average price of $500,800 in the same time period. You hear all about the FHA loans and conventional loans are so difficult to obtain, the funny thing is there was only one FHA loan used to purchase properties in Eastside Costa Mesa.
