Had a Wonderful Day On The American River Today     When asked what it was that I wanted to do today, I requested that our family float down the American River in Sacramento. My wife and my three sons were all able to attend, and we had a blast. As the kids get older it is more and more difficult to get together but they were all there for their father today.

Is That An Oak Tree in Your Wood Deck? It is not uncommon to see oak trees growing up through a wood deck in the Sacramento area. Oak trees provide shade, and it is a special look that many enjoy. Often times the oak tree cannot be removed, they are protected. Done correctly the tree can be a unique feature to the home. There can be a problem though. The tree will be growing and if you do not allow for growth it may cause damage to the deck. Probably the best method is to periodically trim the opening as the tree grows. The tree in the photo grew until the hole was too small and the tree lifted the deck over time. In fact this deck is supported by the tree; it has risen 6” off the pier blocks.

Meeting with a general contractor doesn’t have to be a scary encounter in Sacramento.     Many can get intimidated when meeting with a general contractor for the first time. Perhaps you have never worked with a contractor in the past, feel like you aren’t too construction savvy, or even not too sure what you want to have done. It is probably a good idea to work with someone that you feel comfortable with doing business. Ask your friends and relatives for recommendations; do they have a local contractor that they feel comfortable working on a home improvement project? Ask other Sacramento professionals if they know of a general contractor that they would refer. They are familiar with numerous contractors and may be able to help find one just right for you. Don’t be afraid to ask.   If ...

Sacramento Bar is the area just West of the Sunrise Bridge in Fair Oaks, filled with acres and acres of rock cobble left over from gold mining that ended in the 60's. It's one of my favorite places to walk, right near my home in Fair Oaks. You're in the middle of town, yet within minutes, you are deep in nature. Join me as we stroll the American River at Sacramento Bar on a recent winter Saturday... And just for the record, Lewis and Clark DID NOT raft this river... I just imagine that I'm back in time to when they COULD have!  But if I ever hear an arrow go wizzing by, I'll start wondering... For bluff or view homes in Fair Oaks, call me!
