I was asked this question today from a sign call today (God love them) and I really had to pause.  The area code was an Orange County number and I wondered if it was a trick question. Then I really told her what I thought.  Rainbow and Fallbrook are adorable!  They are very quaint, they have lots of culture and events and history.  IF you don't mind being two and a half miles away from a main road and like gorgeous views, no overbearing Home Owners Assocation rules, and peace and quiet, then Rainbow is an excellent choice for you.  What about fires?  Who is California doesn't have to worry about fires?  Of course check with your mortgage professional to see if you are going to need additional fire insurance for your property.  Otherwise, I say, go for it!! Take the plunge.  If living in...

Wow, so my whole adventures into REO listings continues.  One thing about being in real estate, you can't say that it is boring or routine!  Yesterday I went to a new listing I received up in Rainbow Valley just off Rainbow Heights Road.  Actually I had gone up the day before to check occupancy.  Google maps took me totally off the beaten path and I wound up in a pickle.  When I say off the beaten path, I really mean it.  The road which hadn't been paved in a long time was hard to determine which was a a driveway and which was the never ending, winding road.  I twisted, I jived, I tracked, I four wheeled it.  Interesting enough, I saw a BOBCAT on my way up!!  It was HUGE! Wow!! I ended up in some man's driveway who was very gracious enough to help me determine I was on the wrong side of...

Surprisingly, the idea of a vacation or weekend home is not as popular in the Fallbrook/Bonsall area of San Diego County.  Why not?  Who wouldn't want to vacation here?  Year round temperatures in the 70's, virtually frost-free, incredible topography, gorgeous views, privacy, land, open space, year-round golf.....need I say more?  My husband and I owned a "weekend house" when we lived in New York City. It was an old log cabin on 11 acres of meadows and woodlands.  We would look forward to leaving the city and heading to the country every weekend.  Why don't people do that around Fallbrook and Bonsall?  We are only 90 miles from Los Angeles--barely a 2 hour drive, even with traffic.  The escape is worth it and the prices can't be beat right now.  Homes on acreage with incredible views ca...

Life is great here in this part of San Diego County.  Fallbrook is a small town with a rural feel.  Since my family and I moved here 4 years ago, I've noticed a definate change in the community. While Fallbrook and Bonsall are still a retirement destination because of the climate and the slow-paced lifestyle, many more young families are moving to the area because it is such a great place to raise children. There aren't many places left where children can run free outside, ride their bikes down the private streets or even fly kites on their own property.  I live on a little less than 2 acres, but my neighbor has a 23 acre avocado grove where the children (and dogs) love to run through the trees.  We go for walks in the evening and take the dogs for a swim in their year-round pond.  Ther...

People move to the Fallbrook/Bonsall area for many reasons.  One of which is to own land--a sense of one's personal space.  This is one of the only areas in Southern California where land is affordable to own.  Another reason is the weather.  Our frost-free climate is ideal for growing all types of flowers found at the floral markets in addition to the ever-popular avocado and macadamia nut.  This is also horse country and people move here to board and train their horses.  Buying and selling property is a lot different than buying a home in a tract in a small development.  Most of our community is rural and finding a realtor who is familiar with owning land is important. Contact me for local knowledge of the area if you are interested in buying or selling.  Vist my website at www.alyleh...

Fallbrook, located in northern San Diego County, has been especially hard-hit by the Rice Fire. 7500 acres have been destroyed so far by this wildfire, and fully one-third or more of their avocado groves are lost. It is not yet known how many trees are "simply" damaged and will not be producing fruit this season. This most recent loss comes on the heels of last January's killing freeze that blighted millions of dollars in crops. Additional avocado grove and crop losses are yet to be reported by Valley Center, San Pasqual Valley and other avocado growing regions in San Diego County. The results will be far reaching. California is the leading avocado producer in the nation, and San Diego County is home to one third to one-half of the state's approximate 60,000 acres of avocado production. ...
