We as real estate agents do not like to talk about this subject too much, especially in some areas.  I (as well as my wife) feels very safe in Gilroy.  It truly is a subjective measure of a community.  I've noticed that Gilroy has spots of crime, perhaps due to shoplifting occuring at the Gilroy outlets or the local Gilroy WalMart, but overall, in my opinion, there is not major crime (a whole bunch of felonies) taking place in Gilroy, compared to other cities in the Bay Area. Well, one can go here, courtesy of the San Jose Mercury News, and pull up the most recent crimes on a crime map. Christopher High School in Gilroy The newest high school in Gilroy, Christopher High, is expanding its beautiful campus.  The new pool under construction should be ready this summer. The school is adding a new wing with more class rooms as well. Here is another Eagle Ridge Golf Course Community Market Report. This past week was a very busy week for home buyers and home sellers.   There are only 7 active homes listed in this desirable community.  As a Gilroy REALTOR® selling properties in Morgan Hill and Gilroy I encounter multiple offers on a number of properties, however there is no bidding war yet. A property which was listed two days ago is already under contract. Fewer distressed homes are listed, only 3 of the 7 homes, that is the lowest percentage in a long time, although most of the homes in escrow are still distressed properties which take a long time to close. The Eagle Ridge Hiking Group  Last year some residents of Eagle Ridge formed another group to add to the large number of activities organized in the community of Eagle Ridge in Gilroy, California.  This group has been growing in numbers and hikes ever since. This golf course community consists of nearly 900 homes and offers residents and guests a large variety of organized activities such as bunko, book club, hiking, walking, knitting, board game night, ladies lunch, ladies night, golf for women, golf for men, swimming, poker, bridge and more. Eagle Ridge Golf Course Club House in Gilroy, California is the location for many weddings.  Most weekends, especially during the summer months, the white chairs are lined up on the front lawn facing the wedding gazebo for yet another exchange of vows. Eagle Ridge Club House is a great location for weddings and Wedgewood is the company which hosts these beautiful events. This is a market update for Gilroy, California dated March 29, 2011 for single family detached homes and townhouse/Condos. Percentage of distressed properties is down and more in line with the average for California. Price per square foot has increased as did the median home values in Gilroy. Current Real Estate statistics indicate that pending home sales in California increased during the month of February compared to January and that the total number of distressed properties sold from February over January was up from 54% to 56%.    According to the February statistics for Eagle Ridge Golf Course community 93% of pending home sales were distressed. The total number of distressed properties sold in Eagle Ridge during the month of February 2011 was 50%, 6% less than the state average. My observation here is that the number of properties for sale is down with only 8 active listings.  The good news is that the number of distressed single family homes for sale is down sharply to only 37.5% and properties for sale are receiving multiple offers. While some areas of Santa Clara County have been seeing increased buyer activity, Gilroy's real estate market continues the trends of the last year.  Further North, high end environments such as Los Gatos and Saratoga have been seeing a tightening of inventory with the result being multiple offers and quick sales for well priced properties. St. Patrick's Day Celebration at the Claddagh This year we stopped by the Claddagh in Gilroy, California again to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Irish.  Friends of us own this sports bar and restaurant now for a number of years and it is always a nice hang-out place to watch a game or two with friends and family. Gilroy, CA - Community News The building that used to house the "Harvest Time Restaurant" is going to be home to a new restaurant scheduled to open in April or May of 2011. The Milias Restaurant is the vision of entrepreneur Adam Sanchez and his business partner Ann Zyburra. I am looking forward to sampling the menu when The Milias Restaurant opens; downtown Gilroy needs more great places like this fine establishment.  The opening of this eatery is another building block in the redevelopment of downtown Gilroy. Eagle Ridge Golf Course Community Gilroy - Community Activities Eagle Ridge Golf Course Community offers more activities besides golf. The walking group who meets every morning at 8:00 am at three different locations within the community.  On Monday, Wednesday, Friday they meet at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club House.  This group is geared toward beginner to intermediate level walkers and a lively group.
