More than 900 cases of dog biscuits were donated to Friends of Lake Forest, courtesy of Delca Corporation, a wonderful company located right here in Laguna Niguel.  The effort was made to help support a food drive held by the Friends of Lake Forest. Friends of Lake Forest is an organization that promotes the welfare of animals, hoping to increase awareness of the importance of healthy eating.  Jim Gardner, a leader in the group said that his organization is now providing between 300 to 600 pounds of food  per week for animals in need (at local shelters and animal rescue groups).  If you are interested in donating to this worthy cause, please call 949-722-1511.   Thank you for making me Your Orange County Real Estate Connection. The words "topless" and "small town" do not usually go hand in hand, but in Vassalboro, Maine they've come together in the form of a coffee shop. While times are tough, and many people taking on doom and gloom attitudes, employees at the coffee shop have great personalities, stating that they are "happy to be working."  Due to the popularity and uniqueness of the shop, servers make $30 on average per table, with an occasional $100 tip here and there. The owner, Paul Crabtree, made a point to hire men and women of various sizes for his staff, which has gone over well with the 4,500 residents of the town and visitors. What are your thoughts about businesses taking on a more risqué theme in order to keep profitable? Thank you for making me Your Orange County Real Estate Connection. Best r...

Trails have to be shared...Hikers, Mountain Bikers and Equestrians all have access to trails that must be shared.  It can easily be done. You may want to think about some trail etiquette... Hikers: You have the right of way over bikers, but please yield to equestrians. Mountain Bikers: Here is the 411...you have the right of way over no one. End of story. Equestrians: You have the right of way over hikers and mountain bikers. Overall etiquette tips...be friendly, say hi to people, keep dogs on a leash, don't block a trail, pass on the left. Spring isn't far away so brush up on trail etiquette soon. Thank you for making me Your Orange County Real Estate Connection. Best regards. The Santa Ana Zoo is celebrating this week after the birth of twin red-handed tamarin monkeys.  After the zoo's monkey count slipped below the state-required count of fifty last year, the zoo's major donors began contacting the zoo, concerned.  Luckily, two sets of twins have been born in the last month, most recently the red-handed tamarins last week. The twins are happy, healthy, and are on display, just in time to celebrate the zoo's 57th Anniversary this weekend!     Thank you for making me Your Orange County Real Estate Connection. Image courtesy of wikipedia.org Last Tuesday, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place in the city of Laguna Niguel, which symbolized the completion of a ten year study/project which helped stabilize the Aliso Creek Stream bank.  The United States Army Corps of Engineers teamed up with the Orange County Wastewater Authority to enhance the infrastructure surrounding South Orange County Water Authority's Coastal Treatment Plant. Based on studies conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the native habitat and water quality will now be protected within the watershed. Environmental progress in my own "backyard!" One of my clients was preparing for his move out 2 weeks ago.   As we headed toward the close of escrow, he ordered a "dumpster" to be put in front of his home so he could give the 'heave ho' to a lot of stuff... Among the stuff was an old computer monitor and tower that was too slow and no longer useful.  When the trash company came to pick up the dumpster, they neatly placed the monitor and computer at the driveway and took off with the trash.  They didn't do that that because they thought he might have mistakenly put the computer in the trash.  They did it because a computer and monitor are hazardous materials.  Computers contain lead, cadmium and mercury and they pose serious health and environmental risks.  Some states have passed laws against trashing the machines.  There are alt...

No doubt today, kids use language that makes us think for a second or two.  They have some sayings to get across certain ideas that are far from what adults use to communicate.  But have you ever thought about the origins of language? Well, scientists think about it and are coming closer to understanding the genetic origins of language.  They are working to identify the genes that allow humans to talk and understand each other.  While linguists have looked for clues since long ago of how language works, scientists take a different approach.  Scientists have studied the language-impairing disorders like autism and dyslexia looking for common genetic aberrations.  This work has shown there is a gene called FOXP2 which ensures the brain's asymmetrical layout also seems to be important for...

For as long back as this country was formed, people had developed a habit of 'throwing things away'.  What's wrong with that?  Nothing I suppose, because of careful planning there are landfills everywhere where all our trash goes to when we 'throw things away'... We did the best we could with our planning but at some point in time we'll have to come to grip with the factors facing our children and theirs.  Those challenges are more than just fuel and water.  They include waste and recycling... We are running out of landfill and so I wonder what happens in 10 or 20 years when that place called "Away" is full everywhere? Comments are welcome... And thank you for making me Your Orange County Real Estate Connection. Best regards, Michael Caruso
