Fall is here in Lake Arrowhead, California. Despite the fact that there are many days throughout the winter months that are as warm as a spring day, we do need to remember we live in the mountains. Now is the time to turn off our irrigation and safeguard our pipes so they do not burst in the cold days ahead.The Arrowhead Lake Association suggests that we turn off all irrigation until May when we will resume the summer watering schedule. The drought is hard on everyone but even though the summer restrictions are over, it makes sense to care for our pipes by turning off our irrigation systems for the winter months.  10/20/2015

 Beat The Heat, Spend The Day In Lake Arrowhead It's a beautiful morning in Lake Arrowhead, California. I came up yesterday afternoon. When I was at the base of the hill, in San Bernardino, my temperature reading said 101°. Twenty minutes later I turned off highway 18 to see it down to 82°.Nice!September is a lovely month in our local mountains. We still get the warm days on the lake, but the evenings cool down....perfect for a cuddle by an outdoor fire. Oh....and while much of Southern California is feeling the humidity, we are dry and clear up here.With home prices still very affordable, a mountain get-away is within reach.  Decisions Decisions It's a beautiful day in Lake Arrowhead. Yes we have some fall elements, but the lake is warm and the sun is bright. Perfect day to head to the dock, swim and relax.But...my Niners are on at 10am. Darn it!I'm torn. Sure, I can tape it, but we all know what we do with recorded games, we fast forward through the parts that are slow or worse..if we're losing.I love football season and the 49ers vs Steelers would be a fun game to watch. What to do, what to do. Of course, afternoons on the dock are beautiful too. :) Maybe I need a big breakfast and a halftime snooze, then the afternoon swim off the dock? 09/20/2015

 We Love The House You Helped Us Buy, But...... That was followed by a request to give them a call as soon as I could. Since it was already 5 o-clock, I considered a glass of wine before diving into whatever the issue was, but I can't put things like this off.I was surprised, the couple had bought a great home in Lake Arrowhead and every time we spoke, they told me how much they enjoyed it. So what could have happened?I made the call and the wife cheerfully greeted me with "I'm so glad you called so quickly." She started by telling me what a great summer they had had on the lake with the kids. Fighting Bird With Bird I've been fighting the woodpeckers at my cabin for quite some time. We never had a problem in the past and I was at a loss as to why suddenly they took my trees as their territory.Then....something occurred to me. In the past, my husband would come up frequently....and more than that, he would always have squirrel food and bird food out on the feeders. This attracted the Mountain Blue Jays as well.Mean birds.I wondered if that was why the woodpeckers never bothered us, the Jays were always around?So this weekend, I started a campaign to get the Jays and Squirrels back in my trees. I threw food on the ground as well as the feeder. I also bought a new feeder to put in the back.So far, so good. The Jays are here and there have been very little pecking on my house. First Fall Morning In Lake Arrowhead Anyone who lives where there are seasons knows that first morning when you wake up and feel the seasons have changed. Today is that day for me in Lake Arrowhead, CA. I've been up this weekend (as I do most summer weekends) enjoying the days on the boat and warm evenings. Just yesterday morning I woke up to the restrained heat of the day.
