Deane Homes - Mission Viejoby John Alesi, Mission Viejo REALTOR®Mission Viejo CA Real EstateIn the mid 1960's the Deane Brothers began building the first tract of homes in Mission Viejo, eventually building over 650 homes based on six distinct models; Tiffany, Emerald, Marquis, Briolette, Chanticlaire and Jubilee.  Although the original square footages were listed as 1,500 to 2,300 sq.ft., many owners have expanded their homes to as large as 2800 sq. ft. or more.  Another reason these homes remain popular is the large lots they occupy.  The neighborhood is served by a clubhouse, available only to residents, complete with pool, spa, tennis courts and recreation room available for private parties.  Award winning schools, Mission Viejo High School, La Paz Intermediate, and O'neill Elementa...

200 miles high to be a little more precise.  On March 9th, 2007 a group of Mission Viejo High School (MVHS) students made radio contact with the International Space Station and for 7 minutes asked questions of the commander of Expedition 14 of the International Space Station (ISS).  The tie-in to this crazy long distance call...Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria is a class of '76 MVHS graduate as is Matt Bennett, the University of California Irvine student who set up the ham-radio connection with NASA to complete the transmission.  A group of approximately 15 students gathered around the microphone, taking turns asking questions of the astronaut.  The entire event, broadcast live to all of the school's classrooms, was recorded on video from the MVHS video studio and is available in both au...

On Tuesday, March 27th, Southern California experienced unusual wind gusts of up to 60 mph.  About 10,000 people were left without electricity for several hours in a couple of areas of Los Angeles.  Here in South Orange County, there was little visible damage, just a scattering of fallen branches and leaves.  In my travels, I did see a couple of fallen trees.  The photo above shows one I saw in front of the YMCA in Mission Viejo.  A diligent city crew had already been out to remove the branches and pull the tree trunk safely off the road. The winds created something we don't see very often...great, big, puffy, white clouds---the kind that just make everything look better.  Here's a fun photo (below) of Lake Mission Viejo with Saddleback Mountain in the background.  What a day!          ...

Mission ViejoMy little "burg" of Mission Viejo (not really mine, I just live and work here) was recently named the safest city in California and the second safest city in the nation!  This according to a recent report published by Morgan Quitno Press for cities with a population off 75,000-99,999 residents and is third safest in the nation overall, without regard to population.  The safest city, according to this same survey is on the other side of the nation, Brick Township, NJ.In another report by the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the total number of traffic collisions has decreased an average of 23% over the past six years.  This is a pretty good statistic considering that the volume of traffic has surely grown during that same period.Folks, this is a great place to live.  In a...
