Since my December 20th post about the closing of City Winery at the Napa Valley Opera House to be replaced by a jazz venue run by the famous Blue Note Jazz Club, there has been a bit more information about what will happen there.The Opera House will be transformed into two venues. Downstairs will become the Jazz Club with capacity of about 150 similar to the other venues run by Blue Note in New York, Hawaii, Italy, China and Tokyo. Upstairs will be more of a performing arts center named after Bob Mondavi's wife now to be the Margrit Mondavi Theater.Downstairs will be a supper club featuring farm to table fine dining to go along with the great jazz acts known to play at the Blue Note Clubs. The Napa Valley Opera House will have a new tenant come February 1st, 2016. Blue Note Napa Valley will be the latest site for the famed New York jazz club.The Opera House has been home to City Winery, another New York fixture, for the last two years. City Winery never caught on here especially trying to fill the 350 seat venue and the restaurant has been a bit of a flop especially to locals.City Winery came in and did a substantial remodel to the Opera House which was opened here in approximately 1880 and was reputed to be one of two such structures of its type still standing West of the Mississippi. The current Board took on a huge restoration project in 2003 and failed in their attempt to be success. Nearly six and half years since Copia filed for bankruptcy in December of 2008, the cultural food and wine center has a future new owner and may finally have some direction toward it's rebirth. Almost since the opening Celebration on November 18th, 2001, the center has been plagued with ongoing financial issues. Opening to the cheers of almost everyone who lives here and huge support from philanthropic groups, the center had the full backing of Robert Mondavi and contributions from many in the wine business totaling nearly $50 million. Though the final actual sale is a bit off, the terms according to many news sources have been agreed to the Seller, ACA Financial Guaranty Corporation, and the buyer, Triad Development of Seattle.   If you ask a person what there favorite color is, would it surprise you if they said blue? How can you make your property more appealing in the rainy or snowy weather? Think Cozy… CLEAN (that goes without saying) and cozy!!!! I always think what would I really want to be doing on a chilly miserable day…(If I was a home buyer, looking at houses would probably not be it, but if I had limited time or appointments set  then I’d have too).  So pause for a minute and picture this scenario. It’s snowy (rainy) and chilly and open the front door and it smells wonderful.  Perhaps smells of cinnamon and spice or hot coco come to mind. Soft music is playing, there’s a fire in the fireplace or candles that are burning (don’t worry about leaving candles burning use the fake flame candles). I grew up with strong willed European parents who had to work hard for everything they had.  They were young when they moved to North America and basically only had the clothing on their back. *(My father came first, then my mother came over when they got married...amazing story but that's another blog).  I learned that; One anything was possible.  Two only if you're willing to put the effort out to do it. Today's world seems to be sending out a different message.  One of "Why wait get it now!", and "Show the world your successful by the things you have".   That's not the way I was taught.  I was taught to save.  That just because you could afford it, it didn't necessarily mean you had to buy it.  I believe in that principal to this day, but I have to admit, it's getting harder and hard... 11/06/2014

One of the newspapers I read, yes I still read print, the Napa Register had an article about making CNN's "10 healthiest list" This was based upon a campaign to submit videos showing healthful living. To answer this challenge, Napa County organizations and individuals submitted more than 50 videos of people doing healthful things.  After reviewing all the submissions, CNN's “iReporters’ chose Napa as one of the top 10.” This was no simple task for this was not an quest for just United States cities, it was worldwide. Some of the other world cities to win, Montreal, Canada; Munich, Germany; Copenhagen, Denmark; and even Havana, Cuba. We will be having a FREE event for the victims of the earthquake and the numbers keep growing . Three days ago there were 200 homes affected then two days ago it was up to over 600 yellow tagged homes in Napa and Sonoma Counties.  What do you do? How do you recover?
