Bake Sale at Sea Hive Marketplace to Benefit Those Affected by the Lilac Fires Sea Hive Marketplace, one of my favorite stores around, is hosting a bake sale today with 10 area bakers participating, from 10 am until 4 pm. 100% of the proceeds will benefit those affected by the Lilac Fires recently. Stop by if you have a chance, at 1555 S. Coast Highway in Oceanside.  We started, of course, with the bake sale and bought a bunch of goodies to enjoy and share.   Of course we then went on to do some shopping at this eclectic marketplace with numerous vendors, and an amazing array of art, clothing, pottery, jewelry, records, furniture, collectibles, and the list just goes on and on.   The holiday season was alive and very well, too, at Sea Hive. Holiday Music at the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside CA 2017 The Mission San Luis Rey, the largest of the 21 California missions and founded in 1798, is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year, with wonderful grounds and abundant history (it’s a National Historical Landmark) to enjoy – and open daily to the public. The Mission is home to a community of Franciscan Friars. Mission San Luis Rey offers a Retreat Center with day and overnight programs cemetery, historic church, museum, multi-function meeting spaces, and gift shop, and is well worth a visit if you are in the area.  We went to a wonderful holiday Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols there today (one of the choir directors is a good friend of ours) and thoroughly enjoyed beautiful music in a liturgical tradition first ... 12/17/2017

101 Cafe Wall Mural in Oceanside I drive by this classic diner in Oceanside often, located on the historic 101 (aka the Coast Road) where it's been since 1928 - making it Oceanside's oldest restaurant.  Despite all my time here in neighboring Carlsbad I have yet to stop in...something to be remedied I think. I drove by 2 days ago, on the side road, on my way home from an inspection at a beautiful ocean-vew condo. It was a gorgeous fall day and the colors on the mural were particularly bright. Who Remembers Gidget? I was showing oceanview properties today in Oceanside and we drove by the California Surf Museum - a fun place to visit if you are in town! In looking over the museum photos I had I found this picture of the Gidget display. Some of you may be old enough to remember Gidget, a novel, a 1959 movie (with Sandra Dee)  and a 1965 - 1966 sitcom (with Sally Field), about a “boy-crazy” teenaged girl and her surfing friends in Malibu, truly an icon of the California surfing culture.  It’s easy to see why this was included in the California Surf Museum historical treasures! 09/28/2017

I've been showing a client a lot of homes in Oceanside lately. We are trying to get west of the 5 in Oceanside under 650K, but most places are fixers. We've also been looking nearby in Historical Loma Alta community and Fire Mountain. Yesterday I showed a really cool home that featured GOOGIE architecture. Basically, GOOGIE is FUNK FACTOR, INOVATOR type stuff.  Anyhow, I've seeen most of the homes in Loma Alta Oceanside recently between 500-700K, and when we saw this one we were like WHOA!The Loma Alta neighborhood is quite unique, compared to North County San Diego, at least.
