As you all know, I am a member of the Special Events committee for the Palm Springs Association of Realtors, and we raise money for the various charities that the Board of Realtors sponsors. Our biggest fundraisers this year have been the Valentine's Day cake auction and the Easter Basket auction. The money we raise goes to some our favorite charities, which include the Mizell Senior Center & Shoes That Fit. YTD, we have raised nearly $17,000 for our charities. One of the other charities that we help raise money for is the Well in the Desert. This wonderful organization helps feed the homeless & less fortunate people of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. Brought into existence 15 years ago by social interaction between a small number of people joined by their enthusiasm for cars, the Palm Springs Cruisin Association has grown from a small group to well over 100 club members and as many as 125 cars on average, at each monthly cruise.  Started by Bob Hunt and Loren Orcutt as a means for connecting with other car enthusiasts, this association has grown in both size and reputation with their charitable fund raising activities.  Known mainly for their annual benefits for the Bread of Life and Dr. Sebastian George Cancer Foundation charities, this group excels in their enthusiasm for helping mankind and their own community by hosting fund raisers geared at raising money for a number of valid causes. The group activity schedule includes a mon...

The Kaufmann House A truly breath taking monument to the modernist movement in the Post-War era, the Kaufmann House establishes a firm foundation for beauty, deep in the heart of the Palm Springs Desert community.  Designed by the famous architect, Richard Neutra, this home breathes life into the desert, while thriving off of the connection made between man and nature inexplicably intertwined through the sheer genius of the design. Playing an integral part in the appeal of this home, the desert creates a surrounding landscape that serves to frame the architectural masterpiece through varying views from which to enjoy the splendor of the mountains and the desert, offering you a chance to connect with nature on a deeper level with the boundaries having been vastly decreased.  The sense o...

The New York Times reported today that The Kaufmann House has fallen out of escrow, according to Carol Vogels article the sellers canceled by reason of a breach of the terms. I have heard that you had to have $500K to just register and I'm sure a verification of assests and financial ability were concluded prior to entering into a contract with this buyer, so what could it be??? I dont think this is as huge of a deal as people are going to want to make it out to be, it may in fact turn out to be a blessing if this buyer was canceled for reason Beth and Brent felt could potentially harm the home. This home is ART that will comand this price tag and beyond for years to come. My opinion is that whom ever buys this house whether thats today or next year is the person who will ultimitly see ...

Last night at Rockefeller Plaza, Richard Neutra's Kaufmann House (lot 42) Sold for $15M Other legendary pieces of Post-War and Contemporary Art, were Lucian Freud's "Benefits Supervisor Sleeping" for $33,641,000 - Andy Warhol's "(Pepper Pot) Campbell's Soup" for $7,097,000 - Jeff Koon's "New Hoover Convertibles, New Shelton Wet/Drys 5 Gallon, Double Decker" for $11,801,000 and Mark Rothko's "No. 15" for an astounoshings $50,441,000. To architectural afcionados and those in the business of selling architectural properties such as myself the results of the Kaufmann House sale at first seem to leave you wondering why something this significant to the world of Art and Architecture would only fetch $15M. I mean come on, a McMansion in Orange County with 80 look-a-like neghbours can sell for ...

On May 13th 2008, the world-renowned auction house, Christie's, premiered its Post War and Contemporary Art auction to a full-house at 20 Rockefeller Center. There were many of the world's best paintings up for auction, including Elizabeth Peyton's "Kurt Cobain" and Andy Warhol's "Four Jackies". But the highlight of the evening was the auction of Richard Neutra's Kaufmann House in Palm Springs. I had never been to a live auction before, so watching the live video stream was the next best thing. There were 57 lots (items) that were up for auction, and the Kaufmann House was Lot 42. The opening bid for this architectually significant home started at $9 million. The bidding was fast & furious, but the winning bid for this came in by telephone for $15 million. This is now the most expensive...
