In these bleak economic times, a lot of people are struggling financially. Now, in daily conversations, I frequently hear tales of bankruptcies and foreclosures from people whom, just a few years ago, were in great shape, financially. Whatever the case, the days of stability are gone for a lot of people and right now, they are looking for a way out. In my work as a Realtor® in Petaluma, CA, I hold open houses almost every Sunday. It is a wonderful way to meet prospective clients and an opportunity to help them decide if Petaluma, among their many Bay Area choices, fits their needs. Frequently, young families will come through, scoping out homes and the town, with children in tow--strapped to their parents' chests in their Ergos and Bjorns, or toddling through, enticed by a tall carpeted staircase or a full-length mirror. When these families ask questions about the community, I am sure to make mention of The Petaluma Mothers' Club. This is the organization that greatly enhanced my Petaluma experience. When I moved to Petaluma from San Francisco in 2004, meeting people and making friends outside of work was a challenge. I spent a lot...

Petaluma is one of the oldest cities in California, with one of the best preserved Historic Downtown Areas, on the National Register of Historic Places. Victorian homes and Iron Front buildings surround this charming Riverfront town. Centrally located 32 miles north of San Francisco in Sonoma County Wine Country, Petaluma is the ideal base for exploring more than 195 wineries, the redwoods, dramatic coast, Point Reyes National Seashore and the entire Bay Area. Petaluma was miraculously untouched by the 1906 earthquake. So its many exquisite Victorian homes remain, and sightseeing is a particularly rewarding treat. The Victorian riverfront charm of Petaluma's downtown is surrounded by scenic rural back roads, offering hiking and bicycling, just minutes away. Whether it's live theater, sp...

Google is looking for communities for testing their Ultra High Speed Internet in various communities. The City of Petaluma is working on their application and has a deadline of March 26. This Ultra High Speed Internet will bring speeds up to one Gigbit per second. Residents can go online to do our part by nominating Petaluma. Go to google.com/appserve/fiberrfi and complete the nomination process. This can be a good for Petaluma's economy as it may attract the Technology Companies again. You can also go to Petaluma360.com for more information. Let's stay cutting edged and move into the future.

We see lots of homes on the market with tired landscaping these days. Forlorn REO properties sit next to exhausted short sale properties. It was refreshing to come across a beautifully landscaped front entryway that featured some magnificent azaleas in full bloom. These durable winter perennials provided a brilliant accent and welcoming feel to the large, newer Petaluma home we were touring.
