I Got a Piece of Cake in the Mailbox Today     Imagine my surprise when I opened the mailbox and saw a piece of cake inside. I was afraid to touch it at first, and then I realized it was a promotional item. A local automotive service is celebrating their 12th year in service, and mailed out these pieces of cake to their past customers.   The cake is made of sponge, the icing is white caulking with plastic sprinkles on top. The promotional information is glued to one side of the cake. This is something that I have never seen before, is it effective?   What do you think? Is the cake promotion a good idea?

Good to see a sunset from home tonight    I’m usually not one to travel much, but I have had a series of obligations out of town the last 10 days. It’s good to be home and see the sunset in my neighborhood for a change. Here’s what it looked like driving home.

Should we have to ring a bell for service?     If the customer is so important, why should we have to ring a bell to get help? If we are looking to take care of our clients, they shouldn’t have to ask for help. Doesn’t having a bell really mean, “We are going to be over here doing something more important, let us know when we have to step away from this other thing that we are doing”? Maybe we need to take a look at how we can make our clients feel like they are the most important part of our service. Let’s make them believe that we are ready to help, and we will put off whatever is going on to satisfy their needs.   Get rid of the "Ring the Bell for Service"attitude.

Sun Setting Through Smokey Skies   It was a smoke filled day throughout the foothills of the Sierras yesterday. The air quality was not good, but it made for a colorful sunset. Find the good in every situation.  J   Hope to have a clearer day today. How is your Air Quality Index today?

Drive-by shooting in Placerville – Photo   There are many communities that are oriented to those looking for horse property in Placerville, Ca. While I do not own a horse, I will do an occasional drive-by shooting of one. They don’t seem to mind a curious general contractor, wandering the roads of Placerville, looking for a good shot.  J

I have a water leak!    But I don’t know where it’s coming from.   It is important to get any moisture problems taken care of as soon as possible. If it is an active water leak, the source of the problem has to be corrected. A good contractor can do that for you, you don’t need to find the water source yourself. Too often the homeowner or property manager tries to find an answer, delaying the repair until the answer is found. Contractors with experience in water damage repairs know what to look for, how to prevent it from happening again, and offer useful recommendations, all of this in addition to fixing the damage caused by the moisture problem. So if you see a moisture problem, contact a contractor right away. Let him find the problem and give his expert opinion. In Placerville, co...

Enjoy the Moment   The weekend has come to an end, looking forward to another week of new opportunities. This is a great time to relax and enjoy the moment and reflect on all that is good today. This can be during a wonderful sunset, while tearing out rotted wood, or staring at a computer screen. We just have to do it – enjoy the moment!

Two Bucks and Some Change – Photo   I had the opportunity to shot these deer in the neighborhood today. They caught my eye because everyone was there; it’s not often when I can see the whole bunch in one shot like this. The photo was taken in Greenstone Country in Placerville, CA Enjoy the day!

One of the benefits of seeing the deer in Greenstone Country is that you can start to identify them by their differences. Generally, most deer look the same. Since deer tend to stay in the same territory, walking the same paths regularly you can begin to notice a few regulars. A couple of years ago, I had noticed a young one that only had a single antler on his head. I didn’t know why he only had one antler, but I remember wondering if the other will ever grow back. I saw this deer the other day, with two antlers, and he has grown. I see him occasionally on his regular routes, each time I remember how he looked when he was younger. I doubt if the two antlers will ever be equal in size, but I hope it doesn’t. I like seeing this deer friend grow up.

Wildlife in Placerville, CA One of the benefits of being a homeowner in Placerville and the foothills of the Sierras is that you get to be close to the wildlife on a regular basis. These deer were right outside in the front yard acting as if they lived there. It made me stop and think… Who is intruding on whose property?

Controversial Historical Landmark in Placerville. Not new to the local residents.   Do you find this Hangman’s noose offensive? Many do. Is it a part of Placerville history? Yes it is.   That is the controversy behind this dummy in the Hangman’s Noose. The background is very extensive but here are the main points behind this Historical Landmark no. 141. First let’s look at the official description of the landmark.   NO. 141 HANGMAN'S TREE  In the days of 1849, when this city was called Hangtown, vigilantes executed many men for various crimes. This was the site of Hay Yard, on which stood the 'Hangman's Tree.' The stump of the tree is under the building on which the plaque is placed.  Location: 305 Main St. Placerville   Some of the facts: The building is not the Historical Landmark, ...

Bricks – A restaurant on Main Street in Placerville, Ca   We got a chance to get out to dinner tonight in Placerville, Ca. The restaurant we chose was Bricks. The restaurant is named after the old brick structure that houses the business. The menu listed a large number of choices. The food was in the $8 – 10 range for a burger and fries, sandwiches were similar, and the large dinners $15 – 20 range. I had the Mario burger with fries. The burger was a ½ pound Angus beef burger, with mushrooms, bacon, onions and a list of tasty veggies. There were 9 other burgers on the menu and looking around the room, they looked good too. The fries were fresh and cooked to my liking as well. My lifetime partner (my wife) had a Reuben sandwich that was very tasty. The beef was yummy and full of flavor...

Who cares what light fixtures I decide to install? It may be a deal breaker!   There are so many choices in light fixtures to choose from today. Where do I begin? Everything from simple single bulb fixtures to elaborate, fashionable metal finishes. There are literally thousands of options to take into consideration, it depends on many factors.   Some considerations in choosing a light fixture to install: Are you selling your home? Is this an investment property? Will it match the existing finishes in the home? Is it enough light for the room? Does it fit the style of the room? Is it energy efficient? Are the bulbs easy to reach? Is the fixture easy to clean? Are the bulbs readily available? Can I get help installing the light fixture? Will it add value to the home? Is it a fixture tha...
