On the morning of August 6, 1846, Juan and Jose Sepulveda were at the Port of San Pedro and spotted an American Warship and sent word to the local Mexican army. This ship, commanded by Commodore Robert Stockton, had been sent to San Pedro by President Polk, to seize California in the name of the United States, after hostilities had begun with Mexico on April 25, 1846. On August 11th, Stockton began to march his troops from San Pedro to the pueblo Los Angeles. The Fort MacArthur Museum is dedicated  to the preservation of the history of Fort MacArthur, an army post which guarded the Los Angeles harbor from 1914 to 1974.  The museum was established in 1985 and is housed in corridors and galleries of the historic Battery Osgood-Farley.  The concecpt was to create a collection of historical structures which were part of the U.S. Army's role in the defense of the continental coastline from invasion.  The structures were part of the American coastal defenses when the Los Angeles harbor was a military port for both the Army and Navy.  The rooms and galleries contain a variety of exhibits which show the history of the harbor defenses, and the activities they played in keeping the Los Angeles area safe during the World Wars.   The Angel’s Gate Lighthouse in San Pedro, California has been around since 1913. The lighthouse was designed differently from the other California lighthouses. The Angel’s Gate Lighthouse is situated on a forty-foot concrete square. The framework is made out of steel in order to endure the savage seas. The lighthouse still stands defiantly against the rough seas to this day!
