My oldest daughter and I joke when the internet is down (not working) in our house that if we had to choose between the internet and oxygen, we'd choose the internet (actually, it may be me that started this). So what couldn't you live without (in all seriousness)? The toothpaste? Toilet paper? Trips to the hair salon? Time with the boys? It really is interesting to wonder about. And I really could live without a lot of things, but the fact is I don't always act that way. Do you ever get upset ( / lose your patience) when something you "need" isn't there? (I do.) I really could live without a lot of things. (I'm writing it again so it sinks in ~ with me!) I really could live without a lot of things. (I promise that was the last time.) But there are some things I couldn't live without.....

I was talking with a coworker recently about contractors. We were having some work done at our house which required a plumber, an electrician and more. What I didn't know (so much) is that a "general contractor" (as they're known) have experience in all areas. They can do the plumbing. They can do the electrical wiring. They can do everything. They are the experts when it comes to building and renovating. So what are you an expert in? My expertise is not as a general contractor (obviously). And your expertise probably isn't either. But are you doing something that you really weren't "wired" for (pun intended)? We would hope that we discover what we're good (an expert) at and not good (an expert) at early on in life and not end up doing the latter. That can a be huge burden of anxiety f...

It was on the highway that I fell. (Well, a little bit off from it.) It hurt. (Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.) The truth is I was jogging and as I'm getting older, I don't pick my feet up as high as I used to. So I hit the curb with my left foot. (It's still sore a week later.) And I was down on my face in a second. (On my left cheek to be exact.) Pow! Scraaaaape. It's amazing what goes through your mind in such a moment. I have been in accidents before and experienced the proverbial "life flashing before your eyes" moment. What flashed through my mind in this case was the following: "Am I hurt? No." Next flashed: "Did anyone see me?" I felt a little embarrassed. The final flash: "Will anyone stop to help me?" I have had people NOT do anything when I've fallen before (in another setting). Being tha...

You start something new (like Twitter and tweeting) and through fumbling and bumbling, a lot of us learn the ropes. Isn’t it true? And we wish there was a list of do’s and don’ts, but it doesn’t always work that way. But then, through an act of heavenly Providence, somebody comes along (muah) and puts together that list he wishes he had when he was just starting out. I know this is more for beginners, but it doesn’t hurt for us old-timers (notice #7 especially ~ has it ever happened to you?) to review the basics from time to time… 9 Tweeting No No’s (Things You Should Avoid Doing So You Won’t Get Unfollowed on Twitter): No No #1: Having an empty bio (tell us about yourself and more than just “I tweet therefore I am”) No No #2: Altering / modifying the initial tweet when retweeting (som...

Manipulation. It happens when one person exercises some form of control over another person. There are good forms of manipulation (like a parent protecting a child from harm) and there are not so good forms of manipulation. Some of us are more easily manipulated by the "not so good forms" than others. It may be that we don't like confrontation (so we give in) or we want to be liked or we can't stand being rejected or we want to be a part of what everybody else is doing ~ it could be just about anything at the root of why we allow ourselves to be taken advantage of by a manipulator. And I guess the simple answer and protection against manipulation is to dig deeper (read the "fine print") when it comes to whatever we're being "sold." That said, here are... 14 Ways People Are Manipulated ...

What would you do if you could reinvent yourself? (To reinvent: "to invent again or anew; to remake or make over, as in a different form; to bring back; revive.") Would you get up earlier (or later)? Would you wear different clothes? Would you talk differently? What about your attitude? Would you be more positive? Would you be more upbeat? Would you be more motivated? Would you say you're sorry more? Would you say, "I love you" more? Would you spend more time with your spouse? Would you spend more time with your kids?  Would you forgive more? Would you drive slower (or faster)? Would you exercise (keep yourself in shape) and not just let yourself go? Would you smile more? Would you hope more? Would you dream more? And maybe a reinvention is just the thing our life (and business) may ne...

I like simple. (How 'bout you?) I can do simple. I can get my brain around simple. I have time for simple. I see other "beginner" Twitter guides and they're not simple. So I came up with simple. (If you want complicated, you've come to the wrong place)... 7 Ways to Get People to Follow You on Twitter (simple version): 1. Follow them first. 2. Retweet something of theirs. 3. Compliment them on their bio or respond to something you've read that they've tweeted. 4. Shout them out in a tweet on Follow Friday (include the hashtag #FF and their twitter name). 5. Tweet a link to an article that might interest them and carbon copy their name (ex. cc @blogboy2). 6. Create your own blog content, make it great and tweet links to it. 7. Be yourself.
