South Pasadena CA - The Ostrich Farm Work-Live Lofts   Located at 1010 Sycamore Avenue in South Pasadena is the Ostrich Farm Lofts complex.   Yes, this was originally an ostrich farm and quite the tourist attraction in its day.       Originally opened in 1886 by Edwin Cawston, the Cawston Ostrich Farm was the United States’ first ostrich farm.  It has been stated that the original ostriches made their journey from South Africa to Texas and eventually by train to South Pasadena.  Unfortunately, this wasn’t an entirely successful trip as only 18 of the 50 ostriches survived.   Eventually, there was a population of over 100 ostriches at the farm.   During the early part of the 20th century, visitors could be taken on ostrich drawn carriage rides and buy ostrich related items at the factory...

South Pasadena - Condo - Lofts - Townhomes Market Update This is a market update for the South Pasadena condo, loft and townhome segment as of March 4, 2013.   In the past week, five properties have come on the market for sale.  With just six on the market, inventory is still very low in this category.  There are six properties in escrow.  February 2013 saw three sales ranging in price from $302,000 to $415,000 with an average closed price of $342,333(median $310,000) according to our local multiple listing service(MLS) statistics.   This compares to five sales in February 2012 and an average price of $480,000(median $485,000).   This change does not reflect a downward movement in price but is a function of the mix of sales.
