Early this morning at Cavallo Point, Fort Baker Marin County.  Historic lodge rooms shine in brilliant sun before the rains arrive this afternoon. Just a 10-minute drive from the Marina area in San Francisco, yet a world apart.

As a San Francisco and Silicon Valley Realtor®, weekends are usually a time to work. Saturday was no exception and the open house at the condo at 1 Elm Street #303 in San Carlos was well-attended by potential buyers. Yesterday was Easter Sunday, and a day off. What better way is there to celebrate renewal than by heading outdoors for some exercise in gorgeous surroundings?  Stinson Beach and the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais were the draw for us yesterday afternoon. A scenic drive about 40 minutes north of San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge, brought us to the trailhead at the base of the Willow Camp Fire Trail. A steep climb up for about 2 miles provided ever-changing views of the Pacific Ocean, and rewarded us with hillsides full of wildflowers, more golden California poppies than ...

Wordless Wednesday - well, not quite wordless This is a photo taken by Blanche Shamoon on one of her hikes on the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, CA. After a long, dry summer, our hillsides are golden brown; in a few weeks the first of the rains are likely, and by November, young green sprouts will be visible under the dried grasses. By January, the hillsides will be brilliantly green with new grasses waving to and fro. If you hike along here, you can choose to take the Matt Davis Trail which leads one steeply down, just about where the dark trees show to the left in the photo, and you'll find yourself in the town of Stinson Beach. Located about 1-1/4 hour drive from the mid-Peninsula, this is a fantastic destination for a day of hiking, beach combing, lunching, relaxing.

Before my dog died, I used to go to Stinson Beach every year on New Year's Day, regardless of the weather.  Being the good dog that he was, my dog always came along gladly and braved the weather with me.This year, without my beloved four legged companion, I traveled with my two legged companion--my fiance--instead.  We stopped at Parkside Restaurant (not the cafe with the burgers, but the restaurant next door) because they have always had GREAT food at good prices.  AND they always let us sit on the patio, even if the patio was "closed" because they liked us and our dogs so much.  Well, unfortunately, Parkside is under new ownership and new management and staff.  And it is nothing like it used to be.  It was an all around disappointment. Stinson Beach itself, however, did not disappoint...
