I am passionate when it comes to "no wasting", and preserving the environment.  We need to seek every opportunity to recycle. Composting is one more way we can recycle.  Compostings is simply turning your food such as over ripe fruits and veggies, old bread and leftovers into rich and nutrient soil amendment. Sunnyvale offers workshops on everything you need to know about starting a backyard composting pile.  For Sunnyvale residences, classes are held at the Heritage Building at 550 E. Remington Dr.  Next class is October 9, 2010 from 10am til 12noon. If you are not a Sunnyvale resident, check with your local garbage carrier to see what your options are.

For the past years the Baylands trails that run from East Palo Alto through San Jose has been compromised because of the fact that a 2.4 mile portion of the trail that goes  into Sunnyvale behind Moffett Field had been blocked off by bolted up gates.  After four years of collaboration among many different agencies local leaders are set to "cut the bolt", in order to provide a continuous pathway from East Palo Alto to San Jose! The "bolt cutting" ceremony will take place on September 20th starting at 10:30am - noon at the east gate on the Sunnyvale side of Moffett Field.

In today's market does homeownership still make sense........."heck yah"!!  These are the days we've all wished for in the past: •1.       Low interest rates •2.       Tons of inventory                                                               •3.       Great bargains Granted in a perfect world, we wouldn't have a challenged economy, but guess what, we don't live in a perfect world!  So we have to deal with the good, bad and ugly and work with what we have.  If one could think outside the box, and don't always go with the flow, and understand that everything in life has a risk factor and be willing to take a little of that risk (nothing ventured, nothing gained) than many doors will open.  Who knows, the next door open may be to you new home!

Long before Sunnyvale was known as "Silicon Valley", it was populated with orchards and farms.  Naturally canning was one of the first industries to find its way to the Santa Clara Valley. Libby's Cannery had opened in 1906 and was at that time the largest employer in the area.  The factory closed in 1981 and was demolished in 1985.  Today a water tower painted to resemble an old Libby's fruit can stands in the former factory location at 600 W California Ave. Recently on August 17, 2010 a reunion for the Cannery workers was held at the Sunnyvale Historical Museum.  More than 100 former employees turned out at this exciting gathering.  All celebrated a good time of reminiscing and visiting with long-time friends.

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about Jazz and Beyond, Saturday Night on Murphy Street in Sunnyvale CA http://siliconvalleyrealestate-blog.com/local/California/Sunnyvale/Downtown but I had not actually fully participated yet.  I gained some tips I wanted to share from last Saturday night from experiencing the whole Jazz & Beyond event. We go out to dinner almost every Saturday night on Murphy St in Sunnyvale, CA.  We get dinner and then have a glass of wine and listen to the jazz.  However we had not sat at one of the tables on Murphy St and ordered food via our phone and enjoyed dinner outside. One of the reasons is that the tables filll up really fast and we also felt that it was something we wanted to do with another couple. So last Saturday night we met up with another couple and ga...

Saturday Night, Enjoy Live Jazz and try a New place to eat on Murphy Street in Sunnyvale CA We often go to Murphy Street in Downtown Sunnyvale CA for dinner. Last Saturday night we encountered "Jazz & Beyond" after we had already eaten.  However, this Saturday night we are going to go back and take advantage of the opportunity to sit at a table on Murphy Street in front of the Jazz band and order from ANY restaurant on Murphy Street.  No compromises!  I can eat Mexican and he can eat Thai or whatever else looks good when we sit down.  We have invited a couple of friends to go along.  We can all eat together but order from any restaurant, plus enjoy a bottle of wine together.  I think this is such great concept.  So often you get in a rut and keep going to the same place or you want to t...

I was at Toys R Us last week...  And no, not for me, but my son.  :)  And as I was loading a new sand box for him, I heard several birds chirping, but they were not local birds to our area.  We have sparrows, mocking birds, crows, robins, seagulls...  But not this type of chirp.  I felt like I was in the pet store.  I turned to look, and there were 10-15 birds flying, swooping, playing...   as if they have always done this. So I am unsure what type of birds these are?  Do you??? One last picture. So they were flying all around this area of Sunnyvale CA.  Kind of fun!
