Laura Cunningham, "the force that inspired the world class front-of-the-house magic for the French Laundry to compliment the wizardry of chef Thomas Keller", will open a new Yountville restaurant called Vita named after her grandmother, Vita Morrell, who encouraged Laura to move ahead with the concept of a Sicilian, southern Italian restaurant. Jeffrey Cerciello  and the team of the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group will manage the culinary side for Cunningham. Vita will occupy the site formerly known as PJ Steak previously operated by Philippe Jeanty who still runs Bistro Jeanty here. The new 130 seat eatery will be the second largest in Yountville behind only Bottega, Michael Chiarello's new restaurant which will seat between 169-184 when it opens sometime this fall in the V Marketplace,... 07/12/2008

About 2months ago, I was contacted by Dan Levy, a writer for bloomberg.com, wanting to know about Yountville. What he was looking for was different than any of the other writers who have contacted me in the past. He was trying to find what I felt was more its current soul, what it has truly become besides what it was. After having lived, played and/or worked here for nearly 40 years, I get contacted quite a bit about Yountville and have been often disappointed by writers and their takes on how things are here. The following graphs are for the time frame February 2007 thru April 2008 and show in the first graph number of homes for sale, sale pending and sold; in the second graph, sold vs list price percent plus average days on market; and in the third graph, average price per square foot. Though the data seems to indicate a slow market here, things are not that bad. Prices have stabilized for now and just this last week, 5 new properties have come on the market, all at new high asking prices for these homes. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts and if all sale. Tune in my future articles for the answer.     07/12/2008

Yesterday morning started out foggy, but as soon as the fog cleared, it was sunny and warm and time to put the top down on the Porsche and hit the Wine Country for day of sight seeing and, of course, a fabulous lunch -- it was time to take a day off.  We are so fortunate to live in the Bay Area.  Everything really is right outside our door.To complete the ambience we had to choose the right soundtrack:  Eric Clapton, Santana, The Cure, The Cars, Bob Seger and Jim Croce.  The right music is very important when it comes to setting the mood.  This combination proved to be perfect.We weren't in any big hurry, which is good because being in a hurry doesn't bode well in the Wine Country.  They leave that to the City.  If you haven't been to the Wine Country, it really is a feast for the eyes,... 02/17/2008
