The city of Arvada provides a free service for senior citizens that is an emergency response system that could potentially be a life saver. It is called the “Lock Box Program”. The program is funded partially through donations and community grants. Officer Don Sikkema, who is the Arvada Police Department Senior Liaison, will install a “lock box” (similar to those used by realtors) to front doors that allows first responders access to homes in case of emergency. A “File of Life” sticker is applied to the front doors (of participants) to inform responders that there is crucial medical information attached to a magnetic pocket placed on the refrigerator.
