Wasn't it wonderful that she stood and posed for me? Taken April 2010 at the Royal Gorge bridge.

I don't write many testimonials, and maybe I should write more. But I have to tell you about the experience I had today. As I was driving to an appointment I found out the hard way I had a flat tire. And not just flat but, a dead tire. I started calling local shops via Google on my phone. I called 3 local shops none of whom would come help me until I got to the 4th shop Buddy Rays in Canon City.     Now you can see I wasn't stuck in the middle of nowhere, I was in the "Tri-City" area. But there aren't many addresses to reference to. I gave the dispatcher my location the best I could. I knew I was near the crossroads of Cty Rd 84 and Cty Rd 85. And the actual road is sometimes called Shenandoah and some times called Central. And it's not far from Scutti Hill.         So the long and shor...

Here are just a few things you don't know about me: 1) I'm afraid of birds. I had birds as pets as a kid and every last one of them died within a few days of getting them home. I have a better record with dogs. 2) I've been on a variety of TV shows, but until you catch a late rerun of an old show on some obscure TV channel you will never see me. 3) Until very recently I've never owned a car with an automatic transmission. Six months later I'm still trying to get it right! Please ignore the marks on the back bumper. 4) I know A LOT of people. I keep notebooks of business cards. Don't be afraid to give me your card, I use these for reference and give them to other people who may need your service or talent. 5) I helped write a novela - it was rejected by publishers 15 times! 6) I've been ...

The Fifth Annual Brew-Ha-Ha is just around the corner (Saturday, May 9!!) and we're ready for a wall of suds to hit Canon City!    What better way to spend the day BEFORE Mother's Day?  You simply can't go wrong with comedy and microbrews in the park!!  Beer tasting session with stand-up comedians from 3 to 6 pm, and then . . . . . . we'll have the fabulous "Atomic Fireballs," featuring Johnny Watson and Carlos Crull, back for another terrific performance from 6 to 9 pm . . . . I guarantee you'll be up dancing in the grass!   Tickets are only $20 each for the beer tasting, and believe me . . . . that's a great deal for the selection of beers and comedic talent you'll encounter!  And it's a major fundraiser for the Fremont Center for the Arts - we really need your support!

Recently I've become involved with Habitat for Humanity in Fremont County Colorado. If you don't know about HFHI : click here http://www.geocities.com/fremonthfh/ Volunteers do most of the work on the houses as well as the home owners and future home owners. Homes are sold for no profit and no interest loans. The Fremont Chapter recently received the gift of a house and a substantial amount of money. The house will be rehabilitated and brought up to code. New appliances, carpet, paint, front steps and walkway are all on order. But the house is in good shape over all. It's going to be a great place for somebody. All this got me thinking. Let's face it: We've all been in houses that could use A LOT of help. We've all been in properties that we thought should be leveled We've all been in ...

Depending on the source, it is widely believed that Southern Colorado has 300+ days of sunshine. Add that to our mild, not wild temperatures and it's a great place to live. Colorado does have it's surprises. Those of us who live here all have our stories of when it snowed in June and July. And it is "absolute fact" that it ALWAYS snows on Halloween. Believe what you want. But having a range of temperatures and seasons is fun. There is nothing like getting up in the morning to see fresh snow, seeing deer tracks and bunny trails. And later the same day sitting in the sun enjoying the experience. By L. Wayne Denton, I have a handle on your market!!!

Just before I stepped away from the Rain for a while, a new group got started that I immediately fell in love with that is gearded to train lovers.  Growing up in Colorado, my grandfather worked on the local railroad for 45 years.  The railroad he worked with was the Denver, Rio Grande Western (DRGW).  So when the group got started, I went on line in search of information and photo's from the time he was active with this Colorado railroad.  I have not had as much success as I would have liked (probably because I have not been able to devote the necessary time to it), but I did come across an interesting find. I lived in Pueblo, Colorado for a while and most of my family still lives there and near there is a place called the Royal Gorge.  It has a suspension bridge over the gorge that is...

An Interview with Jodi Mews from Send Out Cards What got you into the card business?   I've always been a "card sender" and when I was in sales for a major Hotel Chain, they always used to encourage us to keep in touch with our clients on a regular basis.  That was hard to do on a consistent basis because you were just busy keeping up with your daily job related tasks.  I started a business, Creative Rapport, that helped business professionals keep in touch with their clients and through Creative Rapport, I discovered SendOutCards. What do you like about it? I love being able to bring out the personal side of me while doing business.  Life is all about relationships and if you have the opportunity to brighten a business or personal relationship through a heartfelt card... why not?!  It ...

Tucked away on the north side of Fremont County is Red Canyon Park, part of the Canon City park system. Red Canyon Park resembles Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, but on a smaller scale.  Visitors to the park can day hike, picnic, ATV, watch wildlife and enjoy the views of Canon City. From Canon City follow the Scenic Byway Signs and follow the Gold Belt tour.

Garden Park Colorado is on the Scenic Byway and the Gold Belt Tour just north of Canon City. Several complete skeletons of dinosaurs were found in this area now marked with signs from the state. Four Mile Creek crawls along the side of the road next to picnic tables. While in Canon City visit the Dinosaur Depot for more history on the area. Contact Colorado Western Real Estate for ranches for sale in the Garden Park Area.  The area is well marked and signed. A wonderful place to sit and enjoy the day next to the creek.
