Are you missing buyers when "retail" pricing your home

I have had more years than I would like to admit of retail managment experience and I understand the $9.99 mentality in retail, however I do not understand this mentality when listing a home for sale. Every day I see listings that are priced at $199,999.00 or $399,999.00 etc. WHY!!! Does it really appear to be less expensive, or is this exactly the price you expect to get on the house and hope that a buyer is looking to save a dollar? Heres my two cents, which might bump the price up to where it should be. We are marketing our properties to get the most potential buyers for that home, are we not?
