Eine Kur für Sehnsucht nach Deutschland (A cure for longing to be back in Germany)If you're homesick for Germany, or looking for a place where you can find German delicacies, then you will certainly want to visit Wimberger's Old World Bakery and Delicatessen. It is situated on a quiet, tree-lined avenue. The exterior of the building with its Fachwerk (half-timbered) design gives you the feeling immediately that you are at a German establishment.    In der alten Heimat (In the old country.)One of the first things you experience, when you step inside, is that you are in another country. It's just like being in Germany. Everything is genuinely German. And the staff speaks German. Many Germans come there to shop, so it's not at all unusual that you will hear a lot of German spoken. You wil...

Colorado Springs is known for its breath-taking Rocky Mountain scenery, outdoor activities, Evangelical Christians and high-altitude sports. We are not known for our abundance of water. We are pretty much a high desert. A "high desert" is a place that is over 2,000 feet above sea level and receives less than 10 inches of precipitation a year. Colorado Springs is over 6,000 feet above sea level and receives only about 15 inches of precipitation a year. But, we are blessed with over 250 days of sunshine a year. I guess it is give and take. But, if we do not have a lot of water within our city, where does the water we use come from? According to a recent report from the Colorado Springs Utility Company, About 75% of the water that Colorado Springs uses is from mountain springs in the areas...

There are many nice aspects to downtown Colorado Springs. One of the nicest is Monument Valley Park. Come inside. I'm sure you'll like what you find here.     The park is easily accessible. As you can see, there is a stairway to the right, and a ramp to the left for wheelchairs.       Monument Valley Park is truly an oasis. When you're in the park you get the feeling that you are in another place and time. It is very beautiful, and peaceful here. Take your shoes off, and set a spell.     Off to the left is what appears to be a savanna, somewhere in the South. No, you're still in downtown Colorado Springs. This is one of the paths. It is ideal for strolling, running, or riding a bike, as I was doing on this particular day.      Over yonder there is Colorado College. You can't see it too ...

Good day to all of you taking your time to read my commentary on the current state of the market in Colorado Springs. Many will tell you that it is a great day to buy a house.  This, I tell you, is actually true if you can exercise some patience.  The slowing trend in the housing market has created a ripple effect in the retail industry.  We all know that when the retail industry is experiencing a slow then there could be potential economic waves of distress.  One way that this is regulated is with the lowering of interest rates.  I contest that there is a lowering coming around the bend and that the already low rates will get to an even lower rate. The slowing of the housing market has also created a micro-market of sellers who are under the impression that they have got to get rid of th...

I have opened my own office here in Colorado Springs in September of 2006.  With the slow market and having to basically start over it has been challenging.  I am reminded that most of the things worth anything are slow coming and that His timing is perfect.  I have been thinking of hiring agents for some time and wanted to make sure that I was ready for the added responsibility of managing while still trying to sell real estate.  Just like having children, there is no perfect time and if you wait for that time it will be too late.  The company has an in-house custom marketing design department (Cynet Design) that is excellent.  I am in the midst of revamping my website and the re-design of my signs.  Timing couldn't be better for you to come on board and participate in building somethi...

Arguably one of the best mechanics of German automobiles in the city of Colorado Springs is Gary Kohler, the owner of Volks Tech, located in southeast Colorado Springs.  He has had a VW repair shop in Colorado Springs since 1974, and has been repairing German cars for more than 40 years. All makes and models: Volkswagen, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, ... if it was made in Germany, he can fix it. And he also repairs motorcycles, mostly European.  Repairing German cars is a part of his life. He does it with a passion. And that is one of the reasons why he is the best.       When he's not busy repairing German cars, he's busy ordering parts, or corresponding with people from all over the country who seek his advice.

Well, this is the set-up for my last birthday/Mother's day. My kids collaborated against me and sent a singing telegram. It was web-cammed for the daughter in VA Bch, VA and I could hear her cackling as I danced in the tutu as I lost any dignity I ever had. I used to arrive at my children's schools dressed as a clown and bring special goodies for odd ocassions. Guess I was bored.  Anywhoo- tomorrow is #49 but I think I have a year to plan for the escape by the time.  BTW- the one in VA Bch, got a clown surprise herself in March- I came dressed as the clown and she cried like the baby she is. That was great! All her associates helped me do the gig all the way from Colorado- THAT was cool1BTW- thanks for the help with the links and stuff. More to learn here. AGAIN- Happy Mother's Day

I stopped by the Grindlwald German Delicatessen to buy a loaf of genuine German bread. Whenever I'm there I take a moment to chat with the owner. Today was no exception. Her English is very good, but German is her mother language, and that is what comes natural. So that is the language in which we spoke: (English translation at the end of the article)    Wie lange sind Sie schon hier in Colorado Springs?Seit 20 Jahren. Was kann man hier kaufen?

It's still true. The real treasures are seldom lying out in the open. You have to dig for them.Far off the beaten path, nestled in a grove in southeast Colorado Springs, is Pikes Peak Vineyards & Winery. I visited there and had the good fortune of meeting winemaker Paul Tafoya, who took me on a tour of the winery.  I also spent a little time doing some wine tasting. Paul has been making wine here for more than 25 years. He is pictured to the right, standing in one of the vineyards. This is one of the machines that is used in the initial part of the process for sorting the grapes.    To the left is the wine press. This machine below is used in the fermentation process.            These kegs contain Merlot wine.     Part of the storage process before the wines are bottled.    This is where ...
